Warnie bowled over by mural

As publicity events go, FOX Sports gets points for creativity.

As publicity stunts go, FOX Sports certainly gets points for creativity yesterday.

For the last few days the channel had invited media to attend “a revealing afternoon” yesterday with Shane Warne, at an obscure location in Southbank.

The “covers will come off” at 4pm, they teased (somehow I couldn’t tear myself away to be there…).

As it turns out, the surprise was a 3 metre tall mural featuring the cricketer ahead of the T20 Big Bash by Brisbane graffiti artist, Sofles.

Aussie Cricket legend Shane Warne was guest of honour at a special event that took place this afternoon at Melbourne’s Southbank, to celebrate the start of the KFC T20 Big Bash League.

FOX Sports, the exclusive broadcasters of the smash hit summer series, paid tribute to Warne and all the BBL teams, commissioning an enormous, colourful graffiti-style artwork that was unveiled, by Warnie himself, to the assembled media and cricket fans.

FOX Sports cricket expert Damien Fleming welcomed Warnie and gave him the honours of revealing the striking mural, that features a giant portrait of him in action.

The 7-metre wide, 3-metre high mural, by renowned Australian graffiti artist, Sofles, captures the essence of the BBL – the excitement, the vibrancy, the colour and the spectacular fun of the tournament.

Sofles created the mural from his Brisbane studio. The artwork was designed to be cut into 12 individual pieces, transferred interstate, then reconstructed into its original design, at the spectacular Southbank location – where it will remain on display for cricket fans to enjoy this week.
