Disney exec for ASTRA conference

Children's TV exec Nancy Kanter from Disney Junior will speak at the ASTRA Conference in March.

2013-01-31_1023Disney Junior Senior Vice President, Original Programming and General Manager, Nancy Kanter will speak at the Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association 2013 Conference in March.

She will present a case study on an animated fairy tale Sofia the First, which pulled 5.2 million US viewers on its premiere episode, discussing multiplatform and social media strategies, extending properties into other lines of business and also how digital / social media have changed the measurement metrics in children’s entertainment.

Other keynote speakers include keynote speaker Rich Ross, CEO of Shine America, Richard Freudenstein, CEO of Foxtel, Barney Francis, MD of Sky Sports and Colleen Fahey Rush, Executive Vice President and Chief Research Officer for Viacom Media Networks who will be the keynote speaker at the Women in TV Breakfast.

In her current role, Nancy spearheads Disney Junior which is available as a programming block on the basic platform to 99 million US homes and to millions of other viewers on a total of 33 Disney Junior channels and free-to-air broadcast partners around the world. Nancy leads the development and production of creative content for Disney Junior, unifying the creative vision and ensuring cohesiveness between programming, promotion and extensions of the brands. She also oversees strategic direction for the multiplatform Disney Junior brand on TV, digital, and radio platforms.

It was under Nancy’s leadership that the critically acclaimed Playhouse Disney creative content flourished globally, delivering hit series including “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse”, “Handy Manny”, “Special Agent Oso”, “Little Einsteins” and “Imagination Movers”, as well as short-form content development.

Also speaking at the Conference will be one of Australia’s leading social analysts, David Chalke. Working with data AustraliaSCAN, the annual monitor of social change in Australia, David is a social commentator, occasional writer and broadcaster. David will discuss the effects of recent social changes on Australians’ attitudes and behaviour and the implication of these changes on broadcasting / TV marketing strategies.

Nancy will provide a global perspective and present the strategy behind what was Disney Channel’s #1 telecast in network history for Girls 2-5. David will give us a glimpse into the changing Australian psyche and what that means for television content creators, programmers and marketers,” said Petra Buchanan, CEO of ASTRA.

Under the banner Enhanced Entertainment, the day-long 2013 ASTRA Conference program will share opinions from leaders across the industry, allow for discussion and debate through a combination of panel discussions and break-out sessions and provide networking opportunities at the Women in TV Breakfast, lunch and the closing cocktail function.
