Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all my readers at TV Tonight.

Remember, this is the year we switch off analogue once and for all. I wish I had a dollar for every unloved TV I saw sitting on the footpath last year. Where do they go to die, anyway?

This week TV Tonight will also enter its sixth year of blogging. First I have a few more ‘lists of 2012′ to run during this quiet period. But meanwhile here’s a look at what ABC News 24 made of the year.

And in case you hadn’t noticed I am currently on Hiatus. So tune in for more tomorrow.

Cheers, David!

Analogue is better at my place because i don’t get any of the channel 7s on my main tv(even with outside aerial). We get the 7s with our portable tv although we miss out on other channels. We have had different inside aerials ranging in price from $9 to $49 each worse than the last. It’s all so complicated, give me my analogue! Also my miniature b/w tv in the kitchen will be rendered useless once analogue goes.Boohoo!

They dump them because they have upgraded to a sexy new digital.

David, people don’t dump analogue TVs because they can’t watch digital TV on them, they dump them because they’re old school and uncool.

@ jmanwf the bandwidth was to be auctioned for 4G mobile spectrum, but – according to the opposition – there were no bidders. Given the state of the finances of the FTA networks (Nine and Ten in particular) there is zero chance of a fourth commercial network, if that’s what you were thinking.

We haven’t had analogue tv here in regional Queensland for over a year, its no big deal, you get used to it. Maybe we were used a s guinea pigs before it is turned off in metropolitan areas.

I’m going to miss the analogue signal! It’s not the prettiest, but it’s always been there for me when my digital signal decided to act up (which was often).

    Happy New Year!

I hope I finally get to see drop dead diva season 4 this year.

I noticed on the tv guide this week that between Mon 31/12 to Fri 4/12 there are 14 episodes of big bang theory scheduled.

Happy New Year. The old TVs go to die in third world countries where they get dumped. I don’t know if that’s something we do in Australia, but it’s a real problem. Hopefully things will change. Needless to say the locals aren’t happy about it. There has to be a better way. electronic-recycling.ie/blog/index.php/tag/illegal-dumping-of-weee/

    Hello David,

Wishing you and all TVTonight readers a happy, healthy and prosperous 2013.

As for all those ‘old’ televisions – please, everyone in South Australia who is planning to off-load their analogue set before April – take it to be recycled.

Happy new year to you to David.

I think the ABC was the only channel that had an end of year package this year. It was excellent. There was a time when every channel had one at the end of their bulletin but alas no more.

Cheers David! Been reading for 6 months and loving it. Have a great new year all :D
