Nine News will launch the first live news program made by an Australian TV network exclusively for the web.

2013-01-25_0111Nine News will launch the first live news program made by an Australian TV network exclusively for the web.

#9StreamLIVE will be a weekly live broadcast on ninemsn hosted by Rob McKnight, who has previously hosted web chats and YouTube clips taking viewers behind the scenes.

Each week, #9StreamLIVE will host a high-profile panel of personalities who will challenge perceptions on the events of the week. The webcast format will evolve over time based on feedback from social followers.

Host Rob McKnight says, “We’ll speak to the people making news and go beyond the headline to get the story behind the story.”

“While an interview is in progress, we’ll be able to bring up questions posted by viewers on Twitter and Facebook instantaneously and build that into the webcast”.

#9StreamLIVE starts Tuesday January 29 at www.ninemsn.com.au/9StreamLIVE
7.30pm NSW/VIC/TAS
7.00pm SA
6.30pm QLD
6.00pm Northern Territory

  1. I think everyone here is mistaking the purpose of the web bulletin…I don’t think its just a news bulletin but rather more behind the scenes stuff and talking to reporters about how the break the stories. This stuff I guess doesn’t have a place on normal television and from previous successful web live streams, they have decided to make it permanent. I don’t think it will last very long as I can’t imagine many watching online.

Nine Digitals do need some fixing. I find that I’m never watching – 7two has better and even first-run content most of the time.

  2. Didn’t Nine have an afternoon web exclusive news bulletin for a while?

The ABC also did a web only Newcastle news bulletin and a rural current affairs show that ended up on ABC2 (and later became part of ABC Open).

  3. The opener reads “Studio 9”. A caption later reads “Studio 21”. The Promo Producer has been promoted to program host. Any journalistic background or training? I could not help but expect a sales pitch for a set of knives or a steam mop to launch forth at any time. Both people look and sound eerily similar.

  4. Yeah, I’d rather they concentrated on fixing up Go whose content is either rubbish or repeats of repeats that were on a few weeks ago and whose picture quality is just rubbish.

Last night I was in the mood for a movie that wasn’t too taxing. I haven’t seen The Losers but as it was on Go, I decided to get my Jeffrey Dean Morgan fill over on One, even tho’ I’d seen Watchmen and didn’t like the second half much (made worse with all the ads).

  5. “We’ll speak to the people making news and go beyond the headline to get the story behind the story.” – said the promo producer of The Drum, 60Minutes, ACA, TT, 7:30, Lateline, Witness, Willesee at 7, Sunday, Sunday Night, etc., etc.

  6. Thank God for this, I was worried that we were not getting enough sources of news this year. Seriously, this seems rather pointless. Nine should be focussing more on their digital channels’ content, not news online.
