Bumped: American Idol, The Living Room.

TEN switches up its Thursday and Fridays, also returning Jamie's 15 Minute Meals.

2013-02-28_1722TEN’s The Living Room is heading back to its original timeslot of 7:30pm Fridays, with American Idol about to make way.

There are two changes for American Idol across the next two weeks, so here’s how it will play out:

Friday March 8
7:30pm American Idol (Females perform)

Saturday March 9

7:30pm The Living Room
8:30pm American Idol (Top 10 performance / Results show) 2.5 hours

  1. They are not going to have enough room for TEN as they have Rugby Union on Saturdays and MotoGP for the Dutch TT as they should move it to ONE and leave it there

  2. Now we get to see how The Living Room stacks up against BH&G.

    @rusty
Yep that was the plan. But things change shows ratings fall, your opponents produce something like MKR rules and you have to adapt. You can only have consistency when things are going well.

I expect BH&G to win, but The Living Room should take some viewers off it.

Channel 10 put American Idol on for a number of reasons. They could start it early and get some younger viewers back and promote some shows.
They are short of content. Singing shows are hot at the moment and they want to get in the game.
And they could get Keith Urban fairly cheaply, with would annoy Nine.

They also have probably been thinking about launching some form of local singing contest and getting US Idol back from Fox8 is a cheap way to test the waters.

  3. @User Before the Game is moving back to Saturday nights 6:30pm.

David, you mention that American Idol will run for 2.5 hours on a Friday night from 8:30pm. What does that mean for Ten Late News?

  4. Rearraging a line-up is not as a big a crime as swapping nights, dropping shows etc. Anyone betting 15 min meals is just for a few weeks to Before The Game returns a new earlier slot to avoid clashing with The Footy Show?

  5. @Bogues: There needs to be a balance between maintaining consistency and having to fix something that is clearly broken. The Living Room appearing as late as 9.30 on a Friday is TV suicide. It belongs at 7.30.

Although I’m not sure we need more Jamie Oliver meals but I suppose there’s not much else to put there.

  6. I don’t know why they are waiting till the 15th March to move The Living Room. I don’t think performance eps of Idol will rate much higher.

Move The Living Room to 8.30pm Friday or on Thursday at 8.30pm.

I think they put American Idol on because Keith Urban is a judge and was a big part of The Voice success. But obviously not big enough to warrant a US talent show on free to air. The correct move to Friday nights only. Let’s hope it is back on Fox8 next year where it belongs.

  8. I got a sneaky feeling channel 10 put American idol on this year to test the waters as they are thinking of reviving Australian idol and if people liked American idol then they would think Australian idol would be a good move too.

However, that being said many Australians don’t like watching American talent shows where they can’t vote or do anything to impact the ratings. Even if American Idol was on channel 7, they wouldn’t watch it either.

See how well the US The Voice did on channel 9…nothing but Australian version went through the roof!!

  9. The Living Room up against Better Homes & Gardens? Wasn’t the original point of the show was to have a lifestyle show in a consistent timeslot when BH&G was shifted due to the AFL? It’s just going to get beaten (significantly) in its timeslot…

  10. It was an inevitable move, but good on Ten for giving it a go. Jamie Oliver and SVU will do better.

The Living Room on Thursdays would be a good idea. More people watching than Fridays, not much competition (besides MKR) and it wouldn’t have to compete with Better Homes and Gardens.
