Sandy Roberts denies quitting Seven
“Reports that I have a deal with FOX Footy are inaccurate – nor have they made me an offer," says Sandy Roberts.

It took all day but finally Seven issued a two sentence statement from Sandy Roberts regarding a front-page Herald Sun story that he is quitting the network:
“Reports that I have a deal with Fox Footy are inaccurate – nor have they made me an offer.
“I am continuing with Seven as per my contract.”
Seven sent the statement through at 9:42pm after false stories running all day (usually these things are killed off pronto).
Last night Peter Mitchell told Roberts that staff had been flipping coins for his car parking space.
“Sorry to disappoint them Mitch, it’s not available,” Roberts replied.
It isn’t yet clear if the Herald Sun story was without basis or whether Roberts could end up being shared with two networks, just as Eddie McGuire is with Nine / FOX Footy. That could see him remain with Seven News and still calling games with FOX Footy.
Seven News director Simon Pristel is also Herald Sun’s last editor.

Sandy would be a great loss
I live in Perth so never seen sandy do sport news. Why not put sandy Roberts on Saturday games seven.
Why didn’t 7 News come out and say they have resigned him for another 1 or 2 years! Seem’s very strange.
@ A/Analyst – Incorrect. He has been calling on Regional Radio for at least last two seasons on CrocMedia (which I think is also used on afl.com.au)
All a bit odd, the whole thing. Bit like the HS though to run a story (such as a coach being sacked) and run with it until it happens…
Ofcourse he is not leaving. Anyway you cant compare Eddie’s deal with Sandy. Sandy does the sports report during weeknights. Eddie hosts a gameshow which is taped plus is a club president and even then he only does one game a week. I dont think Sandy will go at all, it would look bad for Seven. If Fox Footy do want Sandy then there is obviously something wrong with their commentary team, besides Sandy hasnt commentated AFL for over a decade.
Agree @camo2. The throw looked so scripted. Mitch even used his pen at the end, as if to confirm the punchline was delivered…
i reckon he’ll still go to fox footy
Totally agree with CraigW.
7 News in Melb is all over the place, changes happening with weather and now maybe sport.
Seem’s they are very worried that 9 News will win the year again.
Is this just a cynical ploy by ch7 to get publicity for their flagging 6pm news in Melbourne?
Sad news that Mr Roberts is not going
didn’t the herald sun also run a front page story that kachie & mel were both leaving sunrise a few years ago? and that ten had the rights to The Voice Au?
and then other media all re-report the false story, what is wrong with this country? always appreciated that David Knox accurately reports it as “reports say that…” until it is confirmed.
There are a few aspects of this story that still don’t add up to me.
Peter Ford is suggesting that the leak came too early and Seven called in lawyers and obliged Roberts to stay.
just a couple of things…that throw at the end of the sportsd break…look so awkward…very uncomfortable…and maybe seven came in with a new offer to keep roberts…maybe a read our news and call the games on weekends…
Doesn’t sound like an outright No, never ever to me. The next obvious question is when does his contract come up?
It would be a good outcome if some form of shared deal could be brokered.
