The Block on top but Seven wins Sunday

Ratings: The Block rises to 1.4m viewers and tops Sunday but Seven edges in front for the night.

2013-02-25_1002So far this year The Block: All Stars has had a lukewarm reception, smothered on most nights by Seven’s unstoppable My Kitchen Rules.

Last night without such heated competition it finally rose to a very healthy 1.4m viewers with Josh & Jenna winning the bathroom room reveal. But the night still went Seven’s way.

Seven network shares were 31.0%, Nine was 29.1%, TEN was 20.0%, ABC was 15.5% and SBS was 4.4%.

Downton Abbey was 1.34m for Seven then The Force (1.3m), Border Security (1.27m), Seven News (1.21m), Sunday Night (1.19m), and Castle (439,000 / 275,000).

Following The Block, 60 Minutes was next best for Nine on 1.17m then Nine News (1.08m), Bladerunner: My Lover, My Killer (742,000), The Mentalist (561,000) and CSI (393,000).

Without that other cooking show against it MasterChef: The Professionals settles for 893,000 viewers. Also for TEN were Elementary (869,000), Modern Family (682,000), TEN News (599,000), The Graham Norton Show  (485,000), Bondi Rescue (422,000) and The Simpsons (347,000).

ABC News (859,000) led ABC1 then Midsomer Murders (714,000), Kevin McCloud’s Man Made House (682,000), Dream Build (569,000) and Rick Stein’s Far Eastern Odyssey (251,000).

History Cold Case (259,000) was best for SBS ONE followed by Wonders of the Solar System (215,000) and World News Australia (172,000).

Movie: Knight and Day on GO! topped multichannels with 280,000.

  1. I watched Downton Abbey then Castle. Very surprised to see the massive drop after DA. The only thing that spoilt my night of viewing was the constant MKR adds. It got to the stage that I just turned the channel over everytime they came on.

  2. @ Pertinax what a devastating situation!
I would have hoped multichannels would give more choice but sadly not!
I watched Kevin McLeod, but feel the idea of the show is good, but has repetition and dragged out a bit!

  3. Modern Family was getting 1m a fortnight ago (922k + 87k). Then Channel 9 moved their Block room reveals up against it.

Channel 10 needs something to fill the slot and keep younger viewers as Sunday is the only night they are doing well.

And the Modern Family episodes are sure to be repeated a couple of times in the future.

  4. Great to see The Amazing Race in HD last night. A bit disappointed seeing it only got 85,000, I was expecting somewhere between 100,000 to 150,000 at least. But given it’s on 7mate, I can’t see it being moved to a real late night timeslot.

  5. Those numbers for first run Modern Family are abysmal. To think it was getting 1 million plus in its 1st and 2nd seasons. Admittedly it is not as great as it once was, but last night’s was funny and sweet and typical of its best work. That’s just terrible ratings wise.

  6. Yes Ten has done well with Elementary, their only new show.

They held on to it till ratings. They were right that its appeal to younger viewers would do OK against Midsomer Murders and Downton Abbey. And they gave it a good lead in with Modern Family and put Graham Norton after it to provide a solid block of programming. Ten needs more than one good night though.

There was nothing on I wanted to watch at 7:30pm and my HDR was empty so I cleaned the bathroom. Never done that on a Sunday night before.

  7. Seven have really ruined Castle with the repeats over summer and late start times. It was only a year ago it was managing 800k+ for new episodes at 9.30pm on a Sunday.

Surely Seven didn’t expect anything more for The Amazing Race when it wasn’t even advertised??? Not to mention they put it on a Sunday up against The Block, Sunday Night and Modern Family.

  8. @TasTVcameraman – hear hear re Border Security. I used to watch it regaularly but soon realised there is very, very little content except in the last 10 minutes. They waste so much time recapping that you only need to watch the last 10 minutes without missing anything!

  9. Good to see Elementary getting better figures than The Mentalist and Castle and Midsomer Murders.

Could be a good lesson here for TEN management,

Probably goes to show that if you put on a really good show people will watch it, and keep to the same times it will deliver reasonable figures , not great as “Downton” takes a lot.

I would watch Downton but I find the ads overbearing along with the endless promos so much a turn off I got the BluRay from the UK.

I am starting to turn off Border Security with all the repeated scenes and catch up scenes I wonder what is the exact running time of unrepeated footage… maybe ten minutes.
