2013-02-07_2353TEN is set to screen “The Longest Daycare,” a Simpsons short which has a 2013 Oscar nomination in Best Animated Short Film.

Airing on TEN on Sunday 17 February, Maggie Simpson in “The Longest Daycare” was originally created by The Simpsons team as a gift to their loyal fan base. Now the four-minute short is a strong contender in the Best Animated Short Film category for this year’s Academy Awards.

In a classic battle of good versus evil, Maggie Simpson in “The Longest Daycare” follows Maggie on a silent crusade to save an innocent butterfly from the clutches of her arch-nemesis Baby Gerald.

The Simpsons showrunner Al Jean told Entertainment Weekly that it is “hard to do a 20-minute Maggie episode, but in four minutes it’s great. She’s like Charlie Chaplin.”

Sunday 17 February at 6.25pm on TEN.

  1. @daveinprogress: No you are correct. In Treehouse Of Horror 5. Maggie is voiced by James Earl Jones and says “This is indeed a disturbing universe” after putting an axe into Willie’s back. You’re also right about it not really counting.

  2. I think Maggie also uttered something in a Halloween ep, in a male voice – but as those eps are so over the top, not sure if it counts either. I’m sure a Simpson-ologist will disabuse me of that if it is not so!

  3. Maggie actually said “daddy” in season 4’s Lisa’s First Word.

And in the season 13 clip show episode Gump Roast (which featured a heap of footage from episodes past), a different take of “daddy” was used.

Heh, Shelley was quoting Homer in the same episode you mentioned she talked in. The family have never heard her speak technically. The episode was Season 4’s “Lisa’s First Word.”

Anyway, this is great news for me as I have not seen this short before and didn’t want to go to Ice Age 4 just to see it! This is good news and great news on new Simpsons airing 6pm Sundays. 🙂
