With the cooperation of the Moonee Valley Racing Club, the AFL and Seven, fans around the country can now enjoy the very best of Australian sport showcased on the one night and the one channel.

After a pre-season shrouded in controversy, Essendon travels to Adelaide to face the resurgent Crows in the opening clash of the 2013 AFL premiership season, with live coverage starting at 8.30pm AEDT on Channel 7 (7mate in Sydney, Brisbane, Perth). At half-time the coverage will then cross to Moonee Valley for the running of the Group 1 William Reid Stakes.

In what will be her last start on a Victorian racetrack, the undefeated Black Caviar will chase her 24th consecutive victory before a national primetime audience.

The Managing Director of Seven Melbourne, Lewis Martin, said: “Black Caviar is an absolute sporting phenomenon who has captured the imagination of our nation. Seven’s Friday Night Football is the big stage. She deserves it, so do the fans, and we thank the AFL and the Moonee Valley Racing Club for making it possible.”

  1. Channel 7’s horse whipping event is appalling, and the fact you gave a leg up to this mob is also if not more.
Did you recieve a publicity hand out from Ch 7?

    1. If you mean programming info release from them yes. If you mean something else untoward no. I’ve made judgement on ethics, I’ve listed programming info. I run a TV blog and Programming is part of that. Just so you know moving forward there will be info on horse racing, AFL, NRL, Olympics, soaps, Reality TV, News and whatever else I see fit. Your point is made, and I trust so is mine, thanks.

  2. Thank you Mr Knox for another horse whipping time to watch channel 7’s Black Cavier.
I’d like to see you straped and ready to run with a stranger on your back with a whip.
The ethics of whipping animals for gambling interest in 2013 is wrong.

    1. As you have raised this I think this says more about your views than mine. But looking back over 3 years of comments from you constantly criticising me I suspect you have another sport in hand anyway. Nobody is forcing anybody to read a blog that does not connect with them.

  3. @Dr_Rudi..gee how did I know that’d be your response? But you’re absolutely right..moody knows she can’t handle distance..why would he think she could give away weight?

  4. @BigJMathews – thanks. Whilst all Friday night games were live last season, there is still debate about showing games live against the gate.

As the game starts at 20:10 Central; and the William Reid Stakes is 21:15 Central, they better be hoping for short quarters.

@nicks – and how much weight do you reckon the handicapper would give her in the Newmarket? Internationally the best races are WFA, time Australia got with the program.

  5. Yes it will be Live into Adelaide all Friday night games are live into Adelaide happened last year and this correct me if i am wrong will be the first time Perth get Live Friday night football on 7mate. because they can now use it because it is the end of analogue TV on April 2
