Returning: The L Word (huh?)

4 years too late... not exactly Express from the US.

2013-03-19_1220Arena has bizarrely scheduled the sixth and final season of The L Word to begin on Sunday March 31.

It’s only taken 4 years to reach our screens.  Maybe it was sent via mule train instead of Express from the US?

The gay-themed series was quite popular in its early years (circa 2004) but the final season aired in the US in 2009.

No idea why it’s taken so long to reach us, nor why Arena has scheduled it seemingly out of the blue. But if you’re a fan maybe you will finally get closure (presuming you didn’t take matters into your own hands already).

Season Six opens with the death of a major character then told in flashback.

The shocking murder of Jenny is told in flashback as each characters recounts the events leading up to the crime to the police investigators; Jenny and Shane start a sizzling romance while Jenny sells another script even as the negative of her movie goes missing; Bette and Tina plan to have another child, this time through adoption; after losing The Planet, Kit opens a new nightclub with partner Helena; Alice and Tasha have compatibility issues and a mutual crush on a third party.

10:30pm Sunday March 31 on Arena.

  1. Loved the L Word but have watched all the DVD’s so Arena are very late in bringing this our screens. If I had Foxtel I would watch it again as this was a good series; shame it had to end, and not to give anything away to people who have not seen it, but fans really did not get closure. I don’t recall Kit losing the Planet; when did that happen, I know those two women from the nightclub bought her out, however I was under the impression that Helena and Kit made a deal with one of them and got the nightclub, and kept the planet in the end.

  2. Yeah, I used to love Monk, the last time it was on was about 2 years ago. I’m just glad they showed the one with Meat Loaf in it, would have been really pissed off if I’d missed that. We got it years after it aired in the US.

  3. I’m pretty sure the last season or two of Monk still haven’t screened in Australia, several years later. Bizarre. You’d think it would be shown sooner, even if it didn’t have much of an audience.

  4. Gee, I wondered what had happened to this show, I used to watch it years ago when it was on 7, then it just disappeared. Wish they wouldn’t start shows if they’re not going to follow through on following seasons of it. Happened to Damages & Pretty Little Liars. Channel 9 eventually aired the rest of Damages, but still waiting to see the final season of it.

  5. Presumably the non-exclusive rights have now become available cheaply. And Arena figures it won’t do any worse than some other unknown female type show that was available for the same price.

  6. I don’t think it was scheduled out of the blue. Arena have been showing the previous seasons ever week so they are probably just up to the final season now. I did enjoy the early seasons and have been trying to watch the newer ones on Arena but it has just gotten too stupid I cannot bare it anymore.
