Deadline reports Raimi (Oz The Great And Powerful, Evil Dead, Spiderman) has signed on to direct hour long pilot starring Greg Kinnear. It is the first time he has directed a TV pilot.

Kinnear plays criminal defense lawyer Keegan Joye (Kinnear), based on the role created by Richard Roxburgh for ABC1.

Bojana Novakovic (Satisfaction, Edge of Darkness) and Miranda Otto have previously been announced in the cast.

Australia’s Essential Media, which recently formed a partnership with Canadian’s 11 Television, has opened offices in LA and are developing projects for US networks and studios. CEO Chris Hilton is currently spending time in LA to establish a base in the North American market.

The US pilot of Rake is due to go into production in a few days.

  1. US audience’s aren’t used to watching non-US content. It takes something major like Downton Abbey. Rake and its accents would not work in the US.

The guilds, producers and networks executives all make money out of making TV shows, so they encourage this idea.

  2. It still beats me why they have to have an American version, the Australian version is great. In saying that I would still like to see it, so I can only hope that is screened here on FTA

  3. Does this mean that at some point Keegan Joye will get a chainsaw grafted onto his arm? I hope so. Will prob need to change his name back to Cleaver.
