The NRL footy show didn’t start until about 10pm, so it’s not really fair to make comparisons yet. True that in the past the AFL enjoyed much higher ratings.

  2. jimbo k March 15, 2013 at 10:16 am -

It’s good to see The Block getting good numbers leading up towards the Grand Final week, after a slow start.

Also, i agree that the AFL Footy Show should be made available to us in Sydney (and to Brisbane) on Gem live, or at least, near live. Because airing it close to midnight on Nine atm is too late for the fans of the show (note – i love NRL, but prefer to watch AFL Footy Show as it seems to be made better)

  3. matthutchinson10 March 15, 2013 at 9:46 am -

Despite the fact the season hasn’t started yet, the AFL footy show still beats the NRL show by a fair margin. I’d expect the ratings to improve for the AFL version once the season starts. When you consider how well the AFL one rates, I don’t understand why 9 doesn’t show it on GEM at 8.30 in Sydney and Brisbane as they show the rugby league live on GEM in the non-NRL states. In my opinion, it’s just an attempt by Sydney TV executives to try to keep Aussie Rules down and make Rugby League the only code to watch on a Thursday night.
