MasterChef Australia: promo

Video: TEN has released its first promo for this year's MasterChef and it's Girls vs Boys.

TEN has released its first promo for this year’s MasterChef Australia (y’know, the one without the Professionals or the back-stabbing).

This year they are pushing a gender battle between boys vs girls, pink vs blue.

They have also sought to communicate certain types this season such as “The Tiger Mum”, “The Dude”, “The 1950’s Housewife,” “the Cattle Rancher,” “Daddy’s Little Princess,” “The Tough Cookie.” It’s not dissimilar to the way Seven has promoted some of their Reality contestants and that has certainly served them very well.

What I am pleased to see is that the show looks like it has lost none of its diversity.

Coming soon presumably…

  1. The promo looks like a lot of fun and I love the diversity of the contestants (unlike The Block which just has caucasian yuppies all the time).

Sadly it’ll be destroyed by The Block and House Rules or whatever rubbish Seven and Nine put up against it.

MCA will join MCP and TBL into being ratings disasters for Ten.

Shame cos the shows are so much better than the other rubbish.

  2. @carolemorrissey

Not neccessarily, what if they used the masterchef contestants to cook up all those temptations, but if it is to be after, they(TBL’s) may possibly become their best customers.

But all jokes aside, I think that instead of the continual, rich high joule meals the MC ‘Encourages and Promotes’, but only OK if consummed as an occassional night out indulgenge etc..

How much more influential and credible, family wise( and stuff the resultant high priced exotic menu items sales after each episode), would it be if they had several dedicated nights, where the chefs produced Tasty, Ecconomical, Low Fat, Low GI/Joule meals, and have past or potential TBL contestants as customer/judges, and also have at least one elimination night in the same theme, and possibly using the TBL trainers as judges

  3. Not sure about this. It seems counter to what I like about the show, where it’s not about anything more than their skills as a chef. It’s not a public voting show, it’s not a personality clash show, it’s not a confrontational show, it’s not a shouting show. So turning to an old-fashioned and unoriginal idea like ‘battle of the sexes’ cheapens what makes it great.

On an unrelated note, George looks slim. I wonder if they’ll go a bit more health and fitness conscious on any of the challenges.

  4. Interesting promo. How long before tough Tiger mum cracks and cries.

Its funny because when MKR first started they judges on MC bagged it as u would expect them to but it will be interesting to see how the ratings go. I feel MKR is the dominant cooking show now.

I dont think they are going to get the ratings that MKR got and top it every night.

However there are things that still wont change that frustrate me about MC.

We still wont get to see all the dishes and it will be obvious who will be in the top 3 and bottom 3.

George will still carry on and yell and tell us how the greeks invented everything.

Adriano Zumbo will be back with another complicated dish. Dont get me wrong he is amazing but it would be nice to see someone else.

Peter Gilmour will be back as well probably for the finale.

It would b nice to see some new chefs that a lot of us dont know about.

  5. I’m a Masterchef fan but they need to hold off a while before televising the next season. Viewers are experiencing cooking show overload. Professionals recently finished, MKR seems to have been on forever. A June kick off would be good.

  6. It is a good promo, but I hope they don’t overdo the monikers such as Tiger Mum, The Dude etc. It’s soooo cringy, and soooo last century.

A battle of the sexes is okay, but the rest is bleah.

  7. Look, I love Masterchef but this battle of the sexes concept is so last century. And the ad is very MKR-esque. I really hope they don’t descend into bitchiness and people putting on characters for the camera (I cringed when I saw “Daddy’s little princess”…). That is not how the “original” cooking show became “the world’s most loved”.

  8. I hope Masterchef can hold it’s own this year.
And please, no contrived scandals a la MKR.

@jumpjakflash. Not just “another” cooking show, “the” only cooking show … imo.

  9. Way too soon, we’ve just had 3 seasons and MC:P just finished a few weeks ago. Feels like its on52 weeks a year and the overexposure it proving very detrimental to ratings. It needs to disappear for a good 6 months then make a big return.

Also lots of people saying they are getting sick of MKR dragging out, it’s going to be a long time before people are willing to commit to a cooking show that runs even longer and more times per week.
