2013-04-08_1354Chameleon actor Lachy Hulme will play Sir Frank Packer in Nine’s upcoming miniseries Power Games: The Packer-Murdoch War.

Patrick Brammall (A Moody Christmas, The Elegant Gentleman’s Guide to Knife Fighting) will play his magnate rival, a young Rupert Murdoch.

Hulme, who was nominated for two Logies last night for his performance as Kerry Packer in Howzat, will now play Kerry’s father, Frank.

Nine made the announcement this morning at a post-Logies recovery brunch for stars, execs and media, at Crown.

The miniseries spans the period 1960-75, when the Murdoch and the Packer families collided as they battled for control of Australia’s newspaper and television industries.

Nine’s description of the miniseries says, “Through 15 years of political intrigue, raw corporate power and high-rolling luxury, these fierce rivals used every means at their disposal to build their empires – and ultimately came to respect and admire each other as titans on the world media stage.”

It will air later this year.

  1. I was sure that Hulme would make it back to back Silver Logies for Outstanding Actor for a performer playing Kerry Packer. Maybe the peer panel thought it would be overkill to reward two actors for playing the same role. For me Rob Carlton was superior. But i think Lachy is ace anyway.

  2. Lachy Hulme’s portrayal of Kerry Packer was pretty close – and it’ll be interesting to see his Frank P. I was working at 9 back in the day, and I can tell you everyone was terrified of Frank. 9 was his personal fiefdom and if he wanted to see repeated replayings of a horse race, that’s what he got ! (true story).
