$13.8m boost for Victorian screen industries

The Victorian government has announced $13.8 million for Victorian screen industries in its State Budget.

2013-05-07_2326The Victorian government has announced $13.8 million for Victorian screen industries in its State Budget, to be allocated over four years.

$8.5 million will go towards to supporting television production, animation and games industry development. $5.3 million goes to the Melbourne International Film Festival.

“Since December 2010, the Coalition Government, through Film Victoria, has supported 84 film and television projects which are estimated to generate more than $320 million in production expenditure in Victoria,” said Minister for Innovation, Services and Small Business Louise Asher.

In a statement Jenni Tosi, CEO Film Victoria, welcomed the news.

“This welcome news recognises the important contribution our industry makes to the state economy and social and cultural fabric of Victoria. It also acknowledges the Government’s confidence in the creative talent that drives our screen industry,” she said.

“These funds will deliver significant benefits both on-screen and to the businesses that drive our state’s production activity.”
