A leader from the Victorian Indian community has dismissed claims that an on-air gag by Sandy Roberts was “racist.”
Roberts had joked that cricketers in India were “all going home for a very good curry!”
Federation of Indian Associations of Victoria president Vasan Srinivasan said the remarks were in a “light-hearted” context.
“I don’t take it personally as a racist remark,” he told News Limited.
“I have spoken to my committee and we all laughed about it.
“I’ve seen Sandy Roberts on TV for a long time. He’s very experienced and a great sports commentator. I really don’t believe there was any malice in his comments.”
Last night host Peter Mitchell told Roberts, “No accents tonight.”

Glad to see some intelligence and a sense of humor about something for once.

Yip me too, I love curry and I did not find it racist either…oh hang on!
So if a Scotsman was said to go home for a jolly good haggis, that would be considered racist by some?
I’ve never heard anything so idiotic in my life as this so-called controversy.
Sheesh
So who whinged about it……my guess it was white leftie do-gooders who simply want to surpress everything that they don’t agree with. Attack and vilify is always their strategy.
I’m half Indian and did not find it racist at all.
Any publicity is good publicity and I guess Seven News needs it right about now.
