Denise Drysdale quits Celebrity Splash

'I don’t think I can do it,' says Denise Drysdale, quitting Seven show.

Denise_resize_RVeteran performer Denise Drysdale has quit Celebrity Splash ahead of the show’s final episode.

Drysdale, who was due to dive in an adjusted semi-final component of the Grand Final, told News Limited, “I am just too old to get hurt.

“I have come into the pool every day and felt sick in the stomach and I just thought, ‘I don’t think I can do it.’

“I feel fantastic, now I’ve made a decision.”

Drysdale said she realised her ‘pin-drop’ dive wouldn’t be good enough for judges in the Finals.

“On the land I had fun. In the water I had none.”

Her exit follows Laura Csortan quitting the show before the premiere. This week Seven dumped plans for its second semi-final and bumped the Grand Final to 8:45pm next Thursday.

Last night at a launch for House Rules a Seven exec hit back at TV Tonight for branding the show (one of) the year’s biggest blunders.

  1. One would have to be a bit naive think that all networks do not religiously read sites such as Tv Tonight etc.( or use key word scanning etc.eg. just write something defamatory or print a defamatory comment David?), the catch 22 is that if they admit to doing so, they also have to admit/explain why they choose to ignore the bleeding obvious most times.

Probably one of the most recent blatant examples being when network 7 deliberately stuffed around or even virtually insulting viewers, resulting in them receiving so many negative comments (especially here), regarding the finals week of MKR and the commencement of A Place To Call Home, and if they were not reading viewers comments venting their displeasure and frustrations of misleading EPG’s and deliberately inaccurate on air promo’s ( up till virtually the last minute, and only if one didn’t look away or blink, that is).

So why/how did network 7 solve this negative response, they insultingly merged/blurred the ending of MKR Grand Final and the starting time of APTCH with the good old stand by,and ever more frequently appearing “TBA” on their EPG.

Hopefully one day the FTA advertisers with their $$$, will also read sites like this and see the growing trends between those who can afford to avoid FTA channels, and those who are restricted economically(captives of TBA), but who now choose to record and fast forward through Adds and B/S Promo’s and B/S Promo’s and B/S Promo’s and B/S Pro….., most times collectively saving hours of actual viewing time, and not forgetting the wasting of many thousands of advertisers $$$

This then possibly leads one to ask just who is against a very fast fairly priced NBN service, at least to us of our older generation slowly fades away from in front of our FTA offerings.

  2. It seems Seven has already wiped Celebrity Splash from history even though the final episode hasn’t even gone to air. I tried to set my recorder to tape it and it isn’t even listed in the EPG. The program listed after the magic show is Revenge. I’ll have to set it up manually. Shades of the way Nine tried to wipe any trace of Excess Baggage ever happening.

  3. if it fails in the country that created it well it’s going to fail everywhere. the US series cast are either battered or broken, the Chinese version had a death.

why not bring back the celeb singing show it takes 2? or the singing bee? why not do a celebrity version of my kitchen rules…

  4. Just read on yahoo7 that Derek Boyer is her replacement. Given Demi Harman finished fifth in heat 2 than I would’ve thought she would be her replacement but maybe he’s the only one who said yes.

  5. Hear, hear JB – and a goodly proportion of contributors to this site would appear to work in the industry anyway. They can air their complaints about their own network here ! And spill a few beans while they’re at it.

I didn’t realise Denise hadn’t been on Dancing with the Stars – as a former dancer (well GoGo dancer) she should have been a shoe in. And a massive personality to boot.

  6. If Seven are quoting you from this site, clearly they read it. Which makes me question, why the hell don’t they listen to us and all our complaints???

  7. This show is a disaster in whatever way you spin it. They had a massive base of 2M+ to promote it from, they are the number 1 network, they spent millions on an already shaky format (it tanked in the US too) and its numbered shank from wow to 2M+ when MKR was on to 800K. Seven need to suck it up, own their mistake and move on… It’s just TV… It’s not like anyone got hurt… Oh wait they did…

  8. I think he is taking the view the numbers (down to 821,000) are much better than TEN and that they stopped Nine winning last 2 weeks. The show was designed to diminish blind auditions for 3 weeks. But I take a broader view than just the numbers. I look at the feedback, the cost, the way it has damaged Revenge, the injury list, the loss of faith in not running a semi, burying the grand final, and whether it will ricochet onto House Rules as a result. I’m comfy that by year’s end when we look back on the year’s disasters it will still be on the list as collateral damage. If 821,000 is so great why are they racing to the exit door?

  9. What is the exec on about? It definitely was a big blunder. When the first promo showed on TV I actually laughed out loud. It looked so ridiculous.
