Renewed: Defiance, Last Man Standing.

Good news for the expensive new sci-fi series starring Grant Bowler.

2013-05-13_0037US series Defiance has been renewed for a second season by Syfy.

Currently airing in its first season, Defiance marked the second largest series premiere in Syfy history.

Starring Grant Bowler, the series is tied to a multiplayer online video game with a combined price tag of $100 million.

“Bringing the rich world of Defiance to life has been an incredible team effort,” said Syfy president of original content Mark Stern. “We couldn’t ask for better partners than [showrunner] Kevin Murphy, his amazing cast and crew, and Trion Worlds. We can’t wait to see where they take us in the second season.”

Meanwhile ABC (US) has renewed Tim Allen comedy Last Man Standing for a third season. It pulled in pulled in 7.9 million viewers in its Friday finale.

  1. I don’t get it how does Last man standing get such high ratings and a quality show like Community has to fight to stay on the air.

    It appear mediocrity really does rule the world. If people would just stop accepting the dribble they’re fed they might just take the time to see that quality programming is available and it’s okay to not be a nuclear wasteland family set up.

  2. Bowler is good and there are a lot of good actors in the cast but the writing is awful. Even basic dialogue and plotting makes you cringe.

    I gave up during the second episode. I may watch the inevitable SF repeats if there nothing else on.

  3. I love Grant Bowler and was excited by Defiance but I really struggled to connect and bailed after episode 2. Might have to give it another shot if it really is a slow burner.
