Hostages tipped for late September

Toni Collette's new drama won't premiere in the US until September 23.

2013-06-28_1138You may have seen some promos on Nine about Toni Collette’s upcoming drama Hostages as “Coming Soon.”

The trailer looks enticing, and no doubt the CBS drama is a response to the success of Homeland.

This won’t premiere in the US until September 23, so don’t expect it on Aussie screens before then.

Whether that qualifies as “soon” is really up to the audience to decide. But I see TEN already has Sochi Olympic watermarks running and that isn’t until February.

Similarly Bake-Off and Underbelly were plugged pre-Easter and we only now have a date for Bake-Off.

The current site poll indicates readers are fairly evenly divided on promotion of content within two weeks or four weeks of airdate.

  1. God not another ‘coming soon’ promo blitz. May I also point out Toni Collette was meant to be on the ‘final’ of The View today but it never aired (well it didn’t air here in QLD) Not a good sign when the Aussie star on one of the top US day time shows and Nine can’t be bothered airing to promote a show it has slated as coming soon!

I saw the extended CBS upfront promo for this back in May and I will not be holding my breath for it on Nine given there past (and current) record.

  2. Bake Off- per Easter? No, that and underbelly were advertised before Christmas. It’s absolutely ridiculous the campaign for those 2 ran.

  3. Within two or four weeks of what? Networks are moving the start of programmes around all the time.

Over summer the networks are going to promote their new season lineups months in advance.

These days they are always going to be promoting something it doesn’t really make any difference whether the show is going to appear in 1 week, 2 weeks or 12 weeks time.

  4. @ David. I also noticed during this weeks episode of Offspring Ch10 had a rather intrusive watermark promoting Wild West Week in Masterchef. It detracts from the viewer being able to see and concentrate on the scenes with it being across half the screen
