2013-06-20_1750Leigh Hatcher has left SKY News after 13 years.

Hatcher who has been a presenter on First Edition for many years, has more recently been news presenter on PM Agenda.

Yesterday David Speers and James Bracey tweeted their best wishes to him.

“This is my last #pmagenda with the great Leigh Hatcher who leaves us this week. I will miss him enormously,” Speers wrote.

Leigh Hatcher  replied “@braceyjames @SkyNewsAust @David_Speers tks speersy very kind and thanks brace you two legends!! :)”

Hatcher’s decision to leave is unrelated to six job that were cut this week in its Sydney newsroom, including two journalist positions.

SKY News boss Angelos Frangopoulos told The Australian it was in the process of introducing new broadcast technology.

“In addition to that, there is a streamlining of the newsroom structure that will see an investment in skynews.com.au and journalists across our channels filing for digital,” he said.

“As a result of the review there were a very small number of redundancies.”

SKY News is understood to be adding journalists in it Brisbane bureau and is also looking to expand its New Zealand operations later this year.

  1. I happened to be watching when David Speers turned to Leigh and paid him the highest of compliments; and a short video package of his work on camera. Leigh is such a gentleman and will be a loss to the network. He has in thepast suffered much illness, and prevailed.
