It’s day one of boot camp in the beautiful Barossa Valley. Today the remaining 21 find themselves at Yalumba Winery for a lamb challenge, during which they must break down a lamb carcass in relay style. The members of the losing team must cook against each other and the two contestants with the least impressive dishes will find themselves going into a double elimination at the end of the week.
Monday 10 June, 7.30pm
Day two of the Barossa Boot Camp sees the contestants at the farm of food legend and MasterChef Australia favourite Maggie Beer. Before today’s challenge gets underway, Maggie demonstrates how to skin a chicken in one piece and how to break it down.
The challenge is a tag team, where each team will cook four Maggie Beer recipes. Each contestant gets 12 minutes to cook before handing over to the next team member, with a one-minute briefing to the incoming contestant. Only one team can win and the two worst-performing contestants in the losing team will find themselves in a double elimination at the end of the week.
Tuesday 11 June, 7.30pm
It’s the final boys vs girls challenge before the double elimination and the winning sex is announced.
Today’s challenge finds the contestants at Seppeltsfield Winery in the Barossa, where they meet three seafood champions who demonstrate their speed and skills.
In the first round of the seafood challenge, three contestants from each team face off in a relay to see which team can shuck oysters, shell prawns and fillet flathead the fastest. The losing team will go into round two for a seafood cook off and the two contestants with the least impressive dishes will find themselves joining the four contestants in the double elimination.
Wednesday 12 June, 7.30pm
It’s the final day of the Barossa Boot Camp and the final day for two MasterChef Australia contestants. Who will be going home?
The six contestants facing the double elimination challenge will revisit the protein that got them into this challenge, and between them they must feed a banquet made up of local poultry and lamb producers. With lamb, seafood and chicken on the menu, which four contestants will get the chance to redeem themselves?
Thursday 13 June, 7.30pm
The Barossa Boot Camp wraps up the week with a MasterClass featuring great local produce and two of the region’s favourite residents, Maggie Beer and William Wood, co-owner and head pastry chef of Carême.
Maggie cooks her classic roast pork and Gary shows us how to make a perfect mash. George explains the correct technique for preserving vine leaves and makes his quail with vine leaves dish. The MasterClass ends with George and William Wood making a Carême sweet pastry raspberry tart.
