One Plus One: Adam Hills

Adam Hills talks to Jane Hutcheon on ABC’s One Plus One tomorrow, filmed the the morning after recording an episode of Adam Hills Tonight.

He tells Jane about his sporty and happy upbringing in ‘The Shire’, the southern suburbs of Sydney. He speaks at length about being born with a deformed right foot and the lengths his parents went to ensuring he had a normal upbringing.

Adam also talks about discovering comedy as a young boy listening to in-flight entertainment.

“A friend of mine described the moment of realising that you want to do stand-up and it’s like a Scooby Doo moment. Something just clicked and I went ‘I love that’.”

Discussing the recent racism controversy over footballer Adam Goodes, and the killing of Reeva Steenkamp, Oscar Pistorius’ girlfriend, Adam Hills believes most issues are fair game for comedians.

“Do you know what, we did make jokes about Oscar (Pistorius), but we made them behind closed doors. There’s something inherently funny in saying the wrong thing to the right people who know the way you mean it.”
