FOX Sports scores with a massive 549,000 viewers for its Live coverage of Socceroos.

2013-06-19_1137Last night’s FIFA WCQ: Australia vs Iraq game was the third-highest rating show in Foxtel history, scoring a massive 549,000 viewers on the platform.

FOX Sports had the game Live while SBS was delayed by an hour.

Record numbers are as follows:
1. NZ v AUS RWC semi final 2011 – 734,000
2. NZ v FRA RWC final 2011 – 649,000
3. AUS v IRQ WCQ 2013 – 549,000

Combining Pay TV, Free to Air metro and Free to Air regional viewers there were more than 2.07m viewers watching the game.

“Last night we witnessed a remarkable moment in Australian sporting history,” said FOX Sports CEO Patrick Delany.

“Australians showed that they have well and truly embraced football in this country with more than half a million people tuning in to FOX Sports’ exclusively live coverage to cheer home the Socceroos.

“This achievement follows the most successful Hyundai A League season in history – with more than 2.8 million viewers watching FOX SPORTS’ live coverage – up 23 per cent on the previous year cementing football as one of Australia’s most loved sports.

“It’s been a massive month of sport and will continue with the three-Test Lions Series kicking off this weekend followed by the Ashes Tour of England and the only place to see all the action live, in high definition and with no ad-breaks during play is on FOX Sports.

“Fans have been fantastic in getting behind our Socceroos and we hope this continues by uniting and standing shoulder-to-shoulder as the Wallabies and Australian cricketers face their biggest test this winter.”

  1. On top of this number is the viewers who may have watched at clubs and pubs across the nation as well. Great game loved hearing Peter Allen’s I go to Rio after the win.

  2. @ David Knox – are the OzTAM overnight STV ratings you report nationwide or only metro? Just something I’ve always wondered and seems like as good a time to ask as any.
