2013-06-04_1934Next guest on new SBS interview show The Observer Effect is another politician, Labor’s Bob Carr.

The reluctant leader. Bob Carr, once dubbed the model for modern Australian Labor leaders who rose from a humble fibro house in the inner west of Sydney to strut the global stage, will reveal the man behind the politician when he joins Ellen Fanning on the new SBS ONE interview show The Observer Effect on Sunday, June 9 at 8.30pm.

Senator Carr has been a powerful, outspoken but often enigmatic figure in Australian life since his rise as Premier of NSW in 1995 – later describing himself as the “reluctant leader”.

The Observer Effect marks the return of long-form interviews to prime time TV where Ellen uses the news and issues of the week as a way to probe more deeply into the personalities who drive Australian politics, business and culture.

While the perceptions of famous Australians are often shaped by sound-bites and political spin, the show promises to take viewers behind the media-managed façade of people they think they know well.

Through the unique, engaging and entertaining format viewers will discover how Senator Carr, who once feared his lifetime ambition of becoming Foreign Minister lost to a career in state politics, not just shapes the news but how the news shapes him.

Sunday, June 9 at 8.30pm SBS ONE.

  2. “The Observer Effect marks the return of long-form interviews to prime time TV”. Really? Never heard of One on One, Kitchen Cabinet ?
“best show on tv!” ? Well, “cheapest” but hardly the “best”.

  3. Yet another good Australian program on at 8.30 Sunday nights. Why do the networks do this? Not everyone has the wherewithal to record all these shows, and so must choose. And the other 3 programs miss out.

I’m a big fan of Ellen Fanning. This is so stupid.
