2013-06-11_2109Elisabeth Moss has won a Critics’ Choice Award (US) for her performance in the NZ miniseries Top of the Lake.

She won a gong as Best Actress in a Movie or Miniseries for the drama which screened on the Sundance Channel, defeating such names as Jessica Lange, Sigourney Weaver and Angela Bassett.

It was the casting of Moss as an Australian detective that pushed ABC out of investment in the drama, allowing UKTV channel to step in.

  1. Re: Top of the Lake. Was far better for everyone involved (production company etc) that ABC turned its back on the series. With BBC and UKTV getting involved, it opened it up to being shown in the States and a far larger audience

Its unlikely it would have received as much initial attention (critics reviews calling it the “The Killing (us version) for smart people etc) in the first place had Moss not being involved and in turn Sundance using it as their first foray into scripted television (not just showing old Sundance Festival movies).

  2. Tatiana Maslany is insanely good in Orphan Black. For me best performance in a drama series this year (male or female) with the highest degree of difficulty
