US series The Glee Project has been cancelled after two seasons.
The reality competition spin-off aired on cable channel Oxygen and saw its winners given a place on FOX music drama, Glee.
So far it has produced two of Glee‘s series regulars Alex Newell (Unique) and Blake Jenner (Ryder Lynn) and a few recurring characters.
The axe falls in the same week as the death of Cory Monteith but reports indicate the two were unrelated.
“The Glee Project will not be returning to Oxygen, but we are extremely proud of this series which launched the careers of several talented individuals,” a spokesperson said. “The show had so much heart and we thank Ryan Murphy and all of the creative talent who helped make the series a critical darling.”
Reports indicate a late renewal for Glee made it too late to turn around a third season of The Glee Project.
The series aired in Australia on ELEVEN.

Not the best timing.
The first season of this show was great. The second, not so much. Shame it’s not continuing.
I actually enjoyed the last season of The Glee Project more than the last season of Glee. So in that sense it’s a shame it got cancelled. However Glee really does underutilize most of its cast at present, so they should really stick with the large cast they already have instead of adding more.
