Former Home and Away actress Esther Anderson has a role in Siberia, the US series about a “fake reality” show with contestants dropped in a location where things start going wrong.
The NBC drama is filmed in Canada but set in the remote territory of Tunguska as contestants are expected to survive without any equipment or food.
Anderson is one of the actors playing reality contestants on the drama, but using their own names. The moves have helped the show baffle social media about whether Siberia is real or fake.
“It was only once we had signed confidentiality agreements and were offered roles that we discovered our characters were reality show contestants. It’s a fake reality TV show if you will. Think Survivor crossed with Lost with a dash of The Blair Witch Project,” Anderson told News Corp.
The series was fully financed by film producer Michael Ohoven of Infinity Media, skipping the pilot stage. But in its first outing it pulled a modest 3.2 million total viewers, against Under the Dome‘s 11.5 million viewers.
In Russia the Siberian Times has criticised the show’s “negatively-slanted portrayal of Siberia.”

@TM – I thought she looked more like Dannii Minogue.
She looks a bit like Jessica Marais in that photo
I was trying to find Esther in the trailer but had no luck. Is she the one murdered or just not a main character? I heard the Aussie accent from the host also.
Esther is there. Image is from the trailer.
Great concept. But question the execution after watching the promo.
Reminds me of Harper’s Island kind of. Though that was so much better.
The host of Siberia, Jonathon Buckley, is from Tasmania and has appeared in The Secret Life of Us and Neighbours.
Thanks, I thought I heard an accent!
I usually try to see the positives but this just looks dated and horrible.
Reality TV has been around for such a long time now. For this idea to feel fresh, it should have been done ten years ago.
I was wondering if Siberia would make it to local screens, guess with those ratings probably not. Well at least on the main FTA channels.
