Shane Crawford raises $1.3m for charity

Congrats to Shane Crawford for raising a massive amount for a good cause.

2013-07-18_2237The Footy Show‘s Shane Crawford has raised a massive $1,329,249 for Breast Cancer Network Australia on his charity bike ride.

Nine announced the tally last night, a week after he completed his marathon 3,600 km “Tour de Crawf” from Melbourne to Perth in 22 days.

“This was a life-changing experience, the most rewarding of my life. The money raised and the awareness created has exceeded all expectations. We have connected with so many rural communities and offered hope to the women with breast cancer and their families,” Crawford said.

“It was amazing to see the support from all over Australia,” he said. “I received inspiring messages on social media and from everyone who cheered me on from the side of the road. That really did keep me going and kept my spirits high.

“In support of Breast Cancer Network Australia, the colour pink was seen from the moment I left Melbourne until the moment I marked my final spot on the AFL Footy Show stage in Perth. The whole experience was intense, but so uplifting, and to make a difference to people’s lives is very special.”

Maxine Morand, CEO of BCNA, said: “Breast Cancer Network Australia is incredibly grateful for the support we have received from Channel Nine and the AFL Footy Show. The funds raised from the community and the sponsors of the Tour de Crawf will greatly assist us to provide resources and support to Australians diagnosed with breast cancer. Shane has not only raised funds, he has really touched the Australian community and inspired a huge number of people.”

Together with his earlier walk from Adelaide to Melbourne and Celebrity Apprentice, Crawford has now raised more than $2 million for Breast Cancer Network Australia.

A fantastic effort.

  1. Wow good on him for his efforts and for the amount of money he has raised. If only all sports personalities would give such a large amount of time and resources to charity. If only Sam Johnson’s Love Your Sister campaign which is highlighted weekly on The Project would be able to raise as much money – last I heard he was at $550,000 out of a targeted $1million for cancer research (not to mention riding a unicycle rather than a bicycle and riding 15,000km compared to 3,600km).
