Good to see a digital multichannel such as GEM get high ratings numbers for the cricket.

I think it indicates we can turn off all the analogue TV transmitters on the east coast now. The rest of the country is pure digital and I think Sydney and Melbourne are ready now as well. :-)

  2. MJL July 11, 2013 at 6:23 pm -

    Grant4D

The STV figures are national and the GEM figures are metro so you can’t really add them together like that.

  3. David Knox July 11, 2013 at 4:02 pm -

Mas as a reader noted below you need to refer to News stories for numbers outside the 20. I do these on most days. Thanks.

  4. maxxdude July 11, 2013 at 3:48 pm -

David do you know what the figures for Arrow were? Thanks.

  5. David Knox July 11, 2013 at 2:40 pm -

Agreed. Tonight is a better direct test.

  6. Pertinax July 11, 2013 at 2:31 pm -

Ok so Gem didn’t out rate Nine due to splits in schedules across states.

Will be interesting to see what the Cricket does on a Thursday when there is no football game and Australia are batting.

  7. Grant4D July 11, 2013 at 1:49 pm -

Looked at another way, the combined GEM/STV figures for The Ashes (1st session) came in at 1,055,000 with Fox Sports contributing 428,000 on its own. For the 2nd session, the combined GEM/STV figures were 525,000 (G = 314,000; FXSports = 211,000).

If aggregated together, the 1st session was the 5th most popular show last night, across FTA/STV platforms whilst the 2nd sesson would have just missed out on the T20.

Not bad, at all, for the cricket.

  8. ryan July 11, 2013 at 11:45 am -

Wow 9 got good figures for gem! Imagine if it was on 9′s main channel!! Stupid move really using gem for something so many people watch(Bar me)

  9. Cam Reed July 11, 2013 at 11:20 am -

    @billy66683 and maxxdude,

David has to put those figures in the News section due to rules by OzTam on posting Rating results, if you look on the front page you will see a title: GEM Ashes bowls over ABC1, SBS and those figures are there. That happens for everyday, if you wan tot find other days just click on the News Tab at the top of the front page and go through it and you will see other days.

As for the Ratings, guess this is a step in direction of people getting used to the secondary channels having watchable content. Take note TV Execs, once Analogue is turned off there is no reason you cannot run quality content on them, rather than the tired repeats of 60′s, 70, 80′s etc shows.

  10. jimbo k July 11, 2013 at 10:49 am -

wow. Big numbers for the Ashes. I didn’t expect to see those numbers for the cricket and the shares for Gem. Good o Nine for getting the series.

Seven could have done a little better than what it got.

  11. Pertinax July 11, 2013 at 10:19 am -

    Gem beat Nine 8:30-10pm.

  12. maxxdude July 11, 2013 at 10:11 am -

What were the ratings for Arrow last night please?

  13. Bogues July 11, 2013 at 10:03 am -

just think of the numbers for GEM if they were to show next weeks SoO in HD!

  14. Bogues July 11, 2013 at 10:02 am -

is that the first time a digital channel has rated in the double figures?

  15. nik c July 11, 2013 at 9:59 am -

What I think was also noteworthy was the 15% for 7′s Primary Channel.
Another good Episode of Offspring last night. Deserves better numbers, but I’ll just enjoy it!
Definitely huge numbers for Gem! I wonder how the female skewed viewers enjoyed that?

  16. JimboJones July 11, 2013 at 9:39 am -

Wed Night Fever was much improved this week. They obvioulsy read this blog and modified their writing. What ratings did it get? I think many people gave up on it after the first episode, which is a pity.

Also, how many other ABC personalities can Adam Hills possibly interview on his show? C’mon, can’t he find anyone interesting to interview?

  17. billy66683 July 11, 2013 at 9:32 am -

Wow surprised about the numbers for the cricket.

  18. billy66683 July 11, 2013 at 9:30 am -

Hey David could you please tell me how the mole and the ej whitten legends game rated. Thanks.

  19. TheTvGuru July 11, 2013 at 9:26 am -

One word, Juggernaut! Nines definitely got the week now!, not even the shares from sevens friday and saturday afl will save seven now

  20. Sacs July 11, 2013 at 9:09 am -

Wow! GEM beats ABC1 and the Ashes has more viewers than whatever was screening on Nein at the time. Now Nein, don’t even think about taking off the HD channel!
