WIN launches GOLD2

WIN launches a second datacasting channel with lifestyle and shopping content.

2013-07-12_2344From 6am today WIN launches GOLD2 on Channel 82 for regional Australia and channel 92 in metropolitan Perth.

Their second datacasting channel will feature lifestyle and shopping content.

Andrew Lancaster, Chief Executive Officer, WIN Corporation said, “This new channel again reaffirms WIN’s position as Australia’s largest television network. No other television network can feature the level of programming in which WIN can, with GOLD2 expanding on our already sizeable Australian broadcast footprint.”

WIN’s Regional WA viewers will be able to receive the signal between Tuesday 16th July and Friday 19th July.

Nine added Extra2 in March.

  1. Thanks Stan, I get what you mean by rolling the channel out anyway, but still I had thought the STW takeover was going to be pretty soon, just seems strange to start broadcasting WIN’s content when the Nine stuff should be so close…

  2. There should be a law against these shopping channels.
Put some decent entertainment on the free to air TV. I can’t stand these shopping channels, I delete them as soon as they go live.
How lazy are these TV stations getting?
What’s the point in having the Biggest broadcast footprint, if nobody is watching the crap that is getting pumped out across the airwaves. Sounds like some executive in a board room trying to justify their position in the company.
If your going to broadcast something put on some classic comedy not an American style infomercial channel.
Waste of electricity & effort WIN

  3. Rob, I don’t know the exact date Nine take control of Perth, but since they’ll be using LCN92 for Extra2 anyway, it makes sense to start it now. With that in mind, I believe Nine Adelaide is still coming out of MediaHub which means they are still getting Gold1 even though Nine Co control the station.

  4. the marketing department of WIN simply astounds me. do the really think that people will buy there marketing bull crap? its a shopping channel for heavens sake

  5. @William – It took me all morning but I think I decipher “BTG” to be “Before the Game”. ?
“RU” I guess is “Rugby Union”?
Like most of the country, no I don’t. Nor NRL. Nor AFL.Nor any “footy show”. But soccer on SBS, yes.

  6. What is the timeline for the STW9 purchase then? Seems a little pointless to roll a station out to the Perth market if the Nine purchase is pending…

  7. so lets get this right…sack all the production people and say that “This new channel again reaffirms WIN’s position as Australia’s largest television network. No other television network can feature the level of programming in which WIN can, with GOLD2 expanding on our already sizeable Australian broadcast footprint.”

soon if they sack all the production people in NSW and QLD which all their staff are expecting… then WIN TV wont be a TV Station… it will just be a relay station for 9 and in 18 months for channel 10…once a great network leading the country in so many things…now fast becoming a Joke…

  8. How can it be financially viable to run such godawful content? Are there really that many fools to be parted from their money that such shows can turn a profit and pay for airtime?

  9. Can anyone in Adelaide confirm that they are not getting this channel? I assume Adelaide is still being inflicted only with Gold and Gold 2 as well? As Nine now directly owns NWS, one would assume Adelaide is not getting this channel. Adelaide viewers have Extra and Extra 2 to look forward to when Nine finally takes over direct playout control from WIN & Media Hub whenever that occurs.

  10. How is this going to effect the bit-rate for the other channels? GO is going to have so much macro blocking that they’ll need to change the channel name to “LEGO”.

  11. You can always just delete them. I only have the 14 channels that contain drama and sport on my TV. I haven’t watched One since White Collar finished and Go! since Nikita finished and I can’t remember watching anything on 73 for ages.

  12. Oh what joy. Now I can catch even more steam mop and exercise gadget ads (sorry, “advertorials” – as misused a word as “encore”).
How can a channel licenced for “datacasting” run VHS-copy-quality ads 24/7?

  13. OMG-How many of these Home Shopping channels do we need? These are of course on top of our ‘normal’ channels which are also saturated with infomercials. There must be heaps of people out there with lots of money to spend on things they don’t really need. 🙂
