Held annually at the Gardens Amphitheatre Darwin the NIMAs is one of Australia’s most prestigious Indigenous events with this year marking 10 years of recognising Indigenous music and the third year of being a national award.

From the respected elder statesmen to the young and emerging voices of the music scene, the National Indigenous Music Awards finalists reveal that today’s Indigenous music scene is stronger than ever.

The NIMAS bring audiences from all over Australia together to applaud the winners, enjoy the performances and soak up the ambiance of a night for music lovers of all ages and cultures.

In recognition of the passing of Dr Yunupingu the National Indigenous Music Awards will dedicate the event to the musical legacy of Yothu Yindi with a concert featuring some of the country’s top musicians playing tribute to this outstanding Indigenous band.

Widely recognized for taking Indigenous music to the world stage, ARIA Hall of Fame Inductees Yothu Yindi have been nominated for Artist of the Year alongside prodigal former band member Gurrumul Yunupingu and pop singer/actress Jessica Mauboy.

NITV gives you front row position with the original members of Yothu Yindi including Gurrumul and a special performance by Archie Roach.

Several artists will also step into the shoes of Mr Yunupingu including grandson Rrawun Maymuru, Bunna Lawrie, The Medics, Jimblah, Dewayne Everettsmith and Shellie Morris who will perform together and separately to pay tribute to Yothu Yindi, covering the band’s greatest and most recognised songs.

The Awards also have a cultural dance element making it a cultural smorgasbord of music, dance and culture.

So kick back and join us around the Campfire and bring your mob (family) as we share the music and culture of Yothu Yindi and Indigenous Australia.
