Bumped: The Mole (again)

Seven has moved to reveal The Mole in yet another new timeslot.

moleSeven has moved to reveal The Mole in yet another new timeslot.

From next week the show moves to 10:30pm Wednesdays, following double episodes of Criminal Minds.

Shura talks to each contestant separately before revealing to the group that during one of his talks the Mole revealed some interesting information: who they think will and won’t forward abseil down one of the silos. Next, the contestants meet at Sydney’s National Art School for a mind-boggling game of Domino Effect. Then just like the dominoes, one contestant will fall over tonight in a termination as eight contestants become seven.

How much longer can this thing go?

  1. As a lunatic Mole fan from the USA who has been watching each week on the web, I have something that I think is important to say:

    *** Quit Your Complaining! ***

If you love The Mole, but don’t like what they’re doing with this season, that’s fine! I even agree with you on most of your points. But what TV executive is going to listen to all of your complaints and decide to green light another season? You can criticise all you like, but you have to be positive about it! We all want The Mole to come back, right? (Don’t answer that, haters…)

The Mole is still the show I look forward to watching most every single week — and I’m half way around the world.

So, let’s change the tone of this thread. What about The Mole do you like? If you’re me, you like the fact that it’s the most intelligent reality show ever created. That it has tension and drama and involves…

    – Yes, there is way too much attention paid to freebies and exemptions (freebies were never a part of the US show, and I thought they were a neat idea until they overdid them).
    – Yes, there should be eliminations each week (I suggest 2hours each week though, as one hour is not enough to get to know the contestants or figure out…

  3. If its not broken dont fix it! The Mole is destroyed by the change from weekly eliminations, far far to many and too much focus on exemptions and freebies. Low budget and corny challenges, irregularity of timeslot and now being broadcast too late for most people. Competitors which dont really seem interested in the goal of coming away with a tidy amount of cash at the conclusion. As if that aint enough, each episode is slow as with a recap of the lack of excitement played after each frequent commercial break.

  4. This is a classic example of “if its not broken dont fix it”
The show needed to maintain the format of an elimination each week. The freebies and exemptions have destroyed the nature of the show completely they have become the focus, the silent auction being the standout. I think the challenges have also been diluted to what could be expected at a teen birthday.
The competitors appear to be working on a retainer as none seem remotely interested in actually winning money. I suppose next we will have eliminated competitors brought back!!
The nature of the show meant that it could be enjoyed by an audience including younger viewers. If all those changes wernt enough now the constantly changing timeslot and the time broadcast has effectively prevented the younger audience and many of the fan base from continued viewing.

  5. I lost interest because of the last minute changes in time. Plus it dragged on and on and on.
The cast are good but its more about the cast and less about the challenges.

Bring back TARAus because that was rating well and I loved it.

  6. 7 and the production company ruined this show with that awful first week. Since then the show hasn’t been too bad – although given the plan was to strip it back to 2 days why at this stage they’d go a week without an elimination is perplexing, equally so is the overuse of challenges involving freebies.

As a concept freebies are fine, but not when every 3rd or 4th challenge seems to be about getting them and/or exemptions – it totally dilutes the show from people getting to the end on largely brains and some luck to people lasting purely because they have an abundance of freebies.

  7. The last three weeks have only been single 1 hour episodes, not doubles (in Sydney. I think Melbourne got a double this week to make up for last week?). Assuming that Seven planned an elimination once per week, we can expect one everything three weeks at this rate…

I don’t understand why Seven isn’t just dumping this in big clumps to get rid of it. It’s only going to continue going downhill if viewers aren’t engaged because it takes so long for anything to happen.

  8. Very unrewarding viewing when a 2hr (or even 1hr) ep doesn’t have an elimination. so the 3x 1hr eps would have been dreadful if it was kept that way. I think the beast format would be 120 min eps, once a week, elimination every week. Otherwise the show contents, host, challenges and cast have been great.

  9. Im really enjoying the mole but can they start eliminating people or it will go on and on.

I thought for sure there would be an elimination last week,

  10. Another case of ruining a tried and true format. Season 1 of The Mole was terrific. I was so looking forward to it coming back. What happened to make this season so dismal? It must be the contestants. Not one likeable personality in the bunch. I hope they blow all the money and end up with nothing.

  11. There was no elimination 2 weeks ago as it got bumped by the AFL interview with the Weapon, so it wasn’t on at all (at least not in Perth, I presume Melbourne and Adelaide too). There was an elimination on the episode before this weeks….

Echo the calls for this to be shifted to 7Mate and played out at a reasonable hour and a timely fashion. I wonder how long Seven had been sitting on this, given it was filmed (from all appearances) around Melbourne Cup time last year?

  12. Just shows how stupid and arrogant Seven are. They should have listened to complaints and cut it done to 1 ep a week including an elimination. Could have been good then. Sucks to hear from Rutzie that 2 hour episodes in 2 weeks and there hasn’t been an elimination.
Loved The Mole and was looking forward to this, but Seven’s drawn out 3 nights a week with no elimination was a big mistake. I gave up on it. Saw some last week and the first 2 eps, and I like Shura, good casting, good challenges, but the way it’s edited is unwatchable.

  13. Why not just move it to 8.30 Thurs as double episodes instead of burying it later and later at night?
People openly bag 10 for constantly chopping and changing the schedule when 7 are being just as bad. They’ve killed off a great format, Shura is a good host. Great shame!

  14. It pretty much confirms if it hasn’t already, that The Mole will not be back next year & properly never again. It was a great show back when it first started back in 2000.

  15. Mrs Bogues wasn’t happy that she had to sit through an hour of The Mole between CM episodes this Wednesday, so I think this is a good move.

Didn’t the networks learn after Ten put The Renovators between the MasterChef grand final a few years back?

  16. Seven over-reached with this show. Starting three nights a week was the first mistake, it’s simply not that compelling for that sort of commitment. Now it’s two hours once a week – which is still too long, but one tight hour free from all the “what just happened before the commercial break” replays (we saw it only minutes ago for goodness sake…) and it could be a good show. I’ve been taping and skipping through the ads and other ballast and enjoying it on that basis. The cast is good and some of the challenges are fun. It’s probably too late now but Seven needs to tighten up this sinking ship.

  17. I can’t believe there wasn’t an elimination this week given there wasn’t one last week either. Why don’t they just show it at 10:30pm three nights a week for those of us still watching. It’s going to take forever otherwise.
