Did Big Brother quietly evict Michael from Showdown?

Why isn't Michael narrating Big Brother Showdown anymore?

2013-08-31_0038He was announced with some fanfare as co-narrator on Big Brother Showdown but former housemate Michael Beveridge is nowhere to be seen on the show anymore.

Was he quietly evicted by Producers?

Nine’s Shelley Craft is also absent.

Producer Alex Mavroidakis told TV Tonight, “The format for the daily show [to which the Showdown games were moved] doesn’t allow for a host or commentary. The Saturday night show was a lot of fun and but it was always our intention to integrate the games into the daily show.”

Showdown was originally due to run for 4 weeks but was incorporated into Thursday’s daily edition.

Meanwhile, storylines have improved in the last few days, with much of the drama being manipulated by Tim, who even put himself up for nomination.

  1. Showdown was really padded out as a separate program and the small amount of content (games) didn’t really justify a 1 hour format. They get through the same amount in 15 minutes in the daily show, so much better in my opinion.

Another option for ratings would be to air Showdown on Fridays in non NRL markets and Saturdays elsewhere.

  2. @OnePotChef, I totally agree with your comments. I watched the Saturday show once and luckily I recorded it so I could fast forward all the crap. Shelley and Michael just weren’t needed and just dragged the show out unnecessarily.

On a different note, this series does have people who are obviously being quite tactical and it’s quite refreshing. Tim in particular has really added something and I’m enjoying this series so far.

  3. I liked the saturday games even with Shelley, Michael and Mike. But yeah they stopped because of Football. I’d rather watch housemates play a bunch of games then watch guys throw a ball around a field with fighting and running involved. The Thursday games are so quick but at least they are there.

  4. Tim is brilliant for the show, isn’t even hiding what he is doing, is completely upfront about it. If the other housemates walked up to Tim and asked him what they are saying behind his back about him manipulating everyone to his face, he’d plain out say yep he is.

Really would love to see Jade and Tully out of the house, would make Drew so much of a better housemate for the show. Tim, Tahan, Mikkayla and Drew would be worth watching against the others and each other when the time comes, the Tahan vs Sugar Sisters stuff is excellent (and both are at fault at times).

As for Showdown, like it the way it is now as part of the daily show with just Mike Goldman commentating, before the banter between the 3 just seemed forced.

  5. @bogues – I don’t think it got dumped because of ratings. I believe it had to get shunted off to make way for NRL, which is disappointing since we now no longer have any bb on the weekends (they really should put something on go or gem, either another daily show or just some live streaming for a bit).

  6. It doesn’t need him. He (and Shelley) were only good if it was like Friday Night Live. You know actually live (we have so little live content this season) and ran for more than an hour.

It didn’t run for more than an hour so putting him just got in the way of seeing the housemates play the game.

Now the showdown is just like the captains quarter challenges like last year.

  7. Unless it was live, it didn’t need a commentary between segments – let alone a host! It also felt awkward without an audience. Amazing that Ten did it better all those years ago…

  8. It didn’t really need a host, so Shelley Craft came across as unnecessary. As for the “commentary” – well, lets just say I doubt many are complaining about this change.

But above all else, the show was needlessly long. Something that can be covered in 10 minutes on a Daily Show, but stretched out to over an hour? I’ve never done so much fast forwarding :S

  9. Is there any creditable source to back up the claim that “it was always our intention to integrate the games into the daily show.”?

I think it is more like a case of the ratings sucked, so they dumped it.

  10. The games are being even further tightened each week it seems. The Saturday edition was not great. I didn’t think Shelly added anything. The Friday edition from 10 with Mike, Ryan and Bree was much better. There is certainly more friction emerging in this middle part of the season.

  11. Ha ha, Tim is a classic. Didn’t like him at first, but he has grown on me. His fake birthday party was hilarious, and showed some of them have no sense of humour.
