This renowned British event, now in its 119th year, will screen live to viewers at 4:30am AEST on Sunday September 9 with primetime highlights at 8:40pm.

Running for its 119th year in the iconic Royal Albert Hall in London, The Last Night of the Proms is known as one of the most popular classical music concerts worldwide and is watched and listened to by an audience of millions.

The Last Night of the Proms premieres on UKTV in Australia on Sunday September 8th from 4:30am (as it is simulcast with BBC Two in the UK) with an encore of highlights to air from 8:40pm. Both broadcasts will deliver an impressive lineup of classical talent, with all eyes on Marin Alsop who leads the celebrated festivities, making history as the first woman ever to conduct the world famous finale to the two-month festival.

Alsop will lead the BBC Symphony Orchestra through a programme of both traditional and new music, threading together many of the strands featured throughout the entire eight-week festival.

Opening with the world premiere of Anna Clyne’s composition Masquerade, The Last Night of the Proms programme includes music by some of the season’s anniversary composers, including opera’s Wagner and Britten, as well as featured composer Granville Bantock, well known for the Pagan Symphony (1928) with many of his works now commercially recorded since the early 1990s.

Also adding to the stellar line up is star solo violinist Nigel Kennedy making a welcome return to the Proms. Kennedy and well-known mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato take to the stage to perform a wide range of popular pieces including Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending, Over the Rainbow and Danny Boy.

Tim Christlieb, Head of Programming & Production for BBC Worldwide Australia & New Zealand says: “We are delighted to bring Foxtel customers yet another world class live event from the BBC on UKTV. The Last Night of the Proms is a magnificent celebration of music and we’re thrilled to be able to offer this to our viewers express from the UK.”

Sunday, September 8th from 4:30am with highlights at 8:40pm.

  1. Would anyone be upset if this wasn’t broadcast live? It’s not like a sporting event or the academy awards where knowing the outcome would spoil your viewing pleasure
