Triple threat for morning news

Matt Doran, Magdalena Roze and Scott Mackinnon announced as presenters of TEN's Early News and Morning News.

earlynewsMatt Doran, Magdalena Roze and Scott Mackinnon have been announced as presenters of TEN’s Early News and Morning News programs coming soon.

The two shows will likely book-end Wake Up and Studio 10 when they launch in November, assuming they don’t premiere earlier.

“Matt is an outstanding, award-winning journalist and presenter who is passionate about keeping Australia informed,” Head of News Anthony Flannery told News Corp.

“Scott is one of the best new sport presenters and journalists in the country – he lives and breathes sport.

“Magdalena is a self-confessed weather nerd, an excellent presenter and a meteorologist who is committed to giving Australia the most accurate forecasts on television.”

TEN only axed its Morning News program last November when Breakfast was dumped.

  1. give Sandra Sully the late news back, send Hamish off to cover the big stories, what I find more strange is they are moving Matt Doran to 2 new News programs and didn’t hire him to host Wake Up, instead they employed James Matheson…

  2. I used to always watch 10 news between 6 & 7am. I would usually time breakfast at 6.30 & get my 10 minute fix of news. I miss it. I can’t watch 9 or 7 as their news bulletins are too brief & not usually about issues that are happening around the country & world. Living in regional Oz means I want national & world news not Melbourne or Sydney stories (no offense) about car accidents, house fires & cars that drive into houses. They never mention house fires or car accidents in regional Australia so why should all Australians listen to stories that don’t affect everyone. If I ever tune in to a 9 or 7 news break at breakfast this is usually what they report.

I’ve now resorted to ABC24 & despite the election overload ATM is an informative news bulletin.

I hope 10 returns to their former format & doesn’t compete with Sunrise or Today. I wish them the best.

  3. This means Matt Doran will no longer be filling in for Hamish MacDonald who seems to spend more time MIA than on the Late News. Ten are very short of talent in the news reading department as recent ‘fill-ins’ have proven. They’re now in need of a weekend newsreader. Perhaps Hermione Kitson is being given the role considering she filled in a few weeks ago. She’s a solid newsreader but lacks personality on Late News when part of the panel. Late News could manage without a newsreader anyway.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Late News scrapped. It hasn’t set the world on fire and rates worse than Sandra Sully’s version did when it was axed.

  4. I think ET will move to 11 which would be a good move considering its a CBS property and 11 as we all know is a joint venture with TEN and CBS. These new shows should do ok providing they are well created and run and given enough time to work. TEN has not had patience since Lachlan led a coup against the old admin, since Hamis McLennan came as CEO TEN has made the right moves, basically crystalising the shit job that Lachlan did since having siginificant say in how TEN is run.

  5. Seems strange to have the same team fronting both bulletins. What are they gonna do while Wake Up and Studio 10 are on air?

Maybe Ten shouldn’t have bothered with Nuala as newsreader for Wake Up, and instead could have just crossed back to these guys in the newsroom every half hour?

  6. @Bullswool – If it airs at 12pm they can’t very well call it the “Morning News”.
@Brekkie – I agree. There are actually two hours on 7 & 9 before 7pm where they could dump those pesky entertainment and quiz shows and run more news. Then, if you want commercials with your news, you can catch 7pm News on 7 & 9’s other channels.

  7. Wake Up needs to start at 6 if it is to have any chance at competing with Today/Sunrise/Breakfast.
I still think Matt Doran should have been a host on Wake Up.
Good luck Ten you will need it because at the moment I am watching CBS This Morning to escape all the election overload.

  8. Too much news already on TV in the morning.Channel 2 are doing the best job with Mike Rowland and Virginia Trioli..Ten will lose in this market too.

  9. @brekkie Yes there are heaps of news bulletins on Australian TV before 7pm, but not on Ten, they only have two bulletins-5pm and the Late News. I think this is a good move by them.

  10. It’s bizarre that Ten axed all those news and chat shows last year, lost all the audience and now wants to start from scratch and relaunch all of them at the same time.

  11. My tip is the Early news will air at 6am. Wake Up will air at 6:30am. Studio 10 will air at 9am or 9:30am and the Morning News will air at 11:30am or 12pm.
