Mal will accept this with grace and good will. Viewers should too and just judge the quality of the 1 hour news service instead. I am just a small fish, not like Mal but I can assure him retirement is complete freedom and wonderful. Dont know how I ever had time to go to work. Ten provides good packages so feel happy for Mal instead. Happy retirement Mal and enjoy. Time for the younger ones to take over :-)

  2. peter baxter August 8, 2013 at 5:28 pm -

Farewell Patrick. Now Ten is preparing to farewell Mal Walden and already the news ratings have plunged from 260K in the week Ten announced he was stepping down to below an average now of 200K.

  3. SNNWMD August 8, 2013 at 5:09 pm -

David, am i the only one to notice that the ratings for 7 News in Sydney, have been higher whilst Mark has been filling in.

  4. David Knox August 8, 2013 at 12:57 pm -

Don’t know. Check the archives and let us know? That’s all I would be doin!

  5. WolfieBoy August 8, 2013 at 12:40 pm -

Happy that Offspring rated over 1 million, well deserved IMHO. And about time for a top Aussie show that has after all won 2 big Logies this year.

Happy for Masterchef and next week in Dubai will also help I feel.

Slide Show – did not look at it but am surprised how it rated so well.

BB is sinking – Ten made more effort with a better host ( Gretel – had brains ) and Friday nights games were so much fun and then there was 24hr streaming for BB-insomniacs LOL :-)

I think it is the 1st almost 24% for Ten since last year, Is that correct David?

  6. Pertinax August 8, 2013 at 12:26 pm -

Slideshow didn’t surprise me. There was not much else on in the timeslot to stop people checking it out.
I suspect it will rate for 2 weeks then drop off unless they introduce some other element to interest viewers.

  7. David Knox August 8, 2013 at 12:15 pm -

I did warn it would be an awkward segue yesty….

  8. theblueskidoo August 8, 2013 at 12:09 pm -

@ghghgh20_211, this one went too far for me:

Rove: “I saved you an hour of your life. An hour that Patrick will never have.” Too soon.

  9. bettestreep2008 August 8, 2013 at 11:55 am -

Oh wow – Ten’s main channel came second by a whisker.

I guess Big Brother’s backyard cricket episode didn’t appeal to the viewers as much as a thoroughly enjoyable MCA with Heston Blumenthal and an outstanding episode of Offspring.

Now this is what Ten should be doing more of.

As for Slideshow – great debut but I think viewers will realise it’s a 22 minute show extended to 70 minutes and not worth the effort.

  10. GG August 8, 2013 at 10:33 am -

    Let’s not get too excited.
We’ll see how Slideshow goes next week.
Personally, I thought it was a load of rubbish – one visual joke milked for all its worth.

  11. ohdenny August 8, 2013 at 10:26 am -

Great for offspring. Will be interesting to see a drop for next week and even for next year since all those people saying they will stop watching because of the death.

I couldn’t take more than a couple minutes of slideshow. Awful

  12. ghghgh20_211 August 8, 2013 at 9:49 am -

    Slideshow’s ratings…really??

    I didn’t expect that at all. I mean…really??

I am glad Offspring rated highly. Great episode.

You need to realise that if Channel 10 did not promote the fact of a death in the show, they wouldn’t have gotten the ratings it did, new people wouldn’t have tuned in to see who died and become fans of the show.

Also, people need to realise the actor is not dead. Just his character on the show. People don’t grieve this much when someone dies in a movie. The actor is still alive people!!

Glad This Week Live is also on the incline. Great show and so funny. Loved all the Patrick from Offspring jokes. Tied in nicely.

    Go 10

  13. The Moops August 8, 2013 at 9:44 am -

Big Brother, oh dear, down the gurgler it goes. I did not watch Slide Show, but wow, great debut numbers.

  14. daveinprogress August 8, 2013 at 9:17 am -

Hooray for Offspring, despite all the concerns, great to see it hit a million. i didn’t think anything on 10 could do that right now.
