Housemates cast Postal Votes in Big Brother Diary Room

What did the Leaders tell the Big Brother housemates in their video campaign messages? Minor Spoilers.

BB Housemates vote - 12Minor Spoilers: Greens Leader Christine Milne and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd have both pitched for the gay marriage vote to Big Brother housemates.

In what is apparently a world first, housemates have lodged Postal Votes for the federal election from inside the Big Brother House.

4 messages were played to housemates yesterday on the Gold Coast before they voted privately in the Diary Room. Having being shut off from the outside world, none was aware Australia goes to the polls this Saturday.

Senator Milne told housemates, “Let me tell you something about myself. I’ve got two boys, 27 and 29, one’s gay one’s straight. I want to be at both of their weddings. I think other mums like me feel just the same.”

“I’ve been an activist all my life, I went to jail to save the Franklin River… and I’m now asking you, Housemates to help me.”

Kevin Rudd said, “To marry Therese, to promise to love and support her, and for her to promise the same to me in front of our family and friends, was one of the most happiest memories in my life… if you support gay marriage I will need your support for this election.”

A representative from the Australian Electoral Commission was on hand to help with any queries you may have.

“Shortly, Big Brother will play you a message from the leaders of the three major parties as well as the Palmer United party, and then give you some time to consider. Big Brother will not be asking Housemates who they voted for and you are under no obligation to discuss your decision. Once your vote is cast, it will remain sealed and stay in the ballot box.”

Tony Abbott appeared in a video with his daughters, “You guys are pretty lucky because there’s an election campaign on and you’re missing it… still I’m not going to miss the chance to say a few words to you about giving Australia a better government. I’m a volunteer bush firefighter, I do a bit of surf lifesaving, I’ve got my daughters here with me because to be honest as with all parents, they’re our best asset… If you want to know who to vote for, I’m the guy with the not bad looking daughters…”

Queenslander Clive Palmer said, ““The main issue is not which individual becomes PM, but what Australia can do to regain its status as a Lucky Country… Governments may rise and fall, Prime Ministers may come and go but ideas go on forever.”

Housemates were given 20 minutes to discuss each video, which led to robust discussion.

All of the housemates except Jade had registered to vote. A representative from the Australian Electoral Commission was also on hand to assist with any enquiries.

Big Brother will not be asking Housemates who they voted for and you are under no obligation to discuss your decision.  Once your vote is cast, it will remain sealed and stay in the ballot box.”

Christine Milne may have won some votes by adding a personal touch, as the only leader to directly refer to them as housemates.

“Don’t forget to give Mr Clooney a pat for me,” she said.

The episode airs tonight at 7pm on Nine.

  1. I agree Abbott was just cringeworthy. What the hell has having not bad looking daughters got to do with anything, they are not voting for them. And that’s a matter of opinion too. Can we please evict Abbott from the country!!!!!!!

Hopefully next week’s late night feast may show more of their discussion.

  2. So Tony Abbott is going to give us a better government because he is a volunteer bush firefighter, does “a bit of surf lifesaving” and has attractive daughters?

Excellent. Country is going to be ship shape come Saturday evening!

  3. Disappointed that Big Brother didn’t make the housemates discuss a little as a group. All I learned was that Mikkayla is a liberal voter, Drew doesn’t know what the Pirate Party is and that Kev’s words resonated with Tully and Ben. Christine Milne’s video was the winner – she was short and to the point. Tony didn’t really outline any reasons and Kev spent his whole 2 minutes talking about Gay Marriage.

  4. The Housemates’ reaction is really a reflection of the general Australian public’s reaction to our pollies.
Crying at Ruddy – Rolling about laughing at Mr Rabbit and quiet anticipation towards Ms Milne.
For me personally, it scares me to think that a person who consistently makes misogynistic comments on TV (and not realizing it or caring) will become the leader of this country.

  5. Tony Abbott: “If you want to know who to vote for, I’m the guy with the not bad looking daughters…”

Really? Look, he needs to be called out on this (again).

I hope a future boyfriend tells him, as the young couple head out one night “a bit of body contact never hurt anyone”.

  6. I saw a commercial for this on GEM earlier. The way it has been advertised gives the impression that the housemates, mainly Tim are able to sit in the diary room and talk back to the party leaders.

  7. bettestreep2008 and kimbeth, you both sound like you have made up your mind on who you are going to vote for on saturday, either kevin rudd or christine milne, anyone but tony abbott huh?

  8. Do fathers normally say things like this about their daughters ? He said this in front of housemates and 800k viewers or so. What will he say in front of the world?

  9. Ricoz – totally agree with you. Tony Abbott was cringeworthy. And to tell people to vote for him because he has the ‘not so bad looking’ daughters was highly sexist and offensive.

Tahan is a million times more beautiful than Tony’s two daughters.

I can’t comment on his third daughter because he’s been very careful not to parade her around for the media.
