No deal for Seven’s early evening

Ratings: Tuesday numbers highlight how Deal or No Deal is dragging down their early evening -but Seven rebuilt to win the night.

nodeal aokThe need for change at 5:30pm on Seven is painfully obvious with a quick glance at yesterday’s figures.

While Nine’s Hot Seat pulled 704,000 and TEN News was 652,000, Deal or No Deal struggled on just 488,000 viewers. So while viewers in Sydney tuned in to see fires on their 6pm news 427,000 of them were watching Nine, but just 296,000 on Seven. In Melbourne the gap was almost as stark. In turn it impacted on Today Tonight. At 988,000 it was even lower than Winners and Losers at 8:30pm.

Thankfully Seven was able to rebuild through its factual offerings and still won the night.

Seven network share was 30.0% then Nine 24.8%, TEN 20.2%, ABC 19.1% and SBS 5.9%.

Thanks to Perth, Adelaide and Brissy, Seven News was 1.24m nationally (in Perth Seven was 223,000 over Nine’s 92,000). Next was The Force (1.13m), Border Security (1.07m), Winners and Losers (992,000), Today Tonight (988,000), Home and Away (965,000), Deal or No Deal (488,000), and Body of Proof (456,000).

Nine News (1.26m) topped the night for Nine then A Current Affair (1.11m), Big Brother (873,000 / 402,000), Hot Seat (704,000), and The Big Bang Theory (600,000 / 584,000).

Under the Dome was 784,000 for TEN followed by TEN News (652,000), The Project (617,000), Recipe to Riches (608,000), NCIS: LA (475,000). The Simpsons was 385,000.

ABC News won its timeslot with 1.12m viewers. Next for ABC1 was 7:30 (781,000), Rise of the Continents (718,000), Foreign Correspondent (671,000), Australian Encounters (457,000) and At the Movies (436,000).

Who Do You Think You Are? (257,000) led SBS ONE then Insight (244,000), World News Australia (216,000) and Dateline (167,000).

ABC2’s Fireman Sam topped multichannels on 334,000 viewers.

In The Flesh was just 27,000 for SBS 2.

  1. Well I think that it is about time Seven in both Sydney and Melbourne start the dual presenter news role as Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth have been doing for some time now. My recommendation also would be to scrap the news ticker at the bottom and just have the 7 news logo instead.

  2. Home and away has become all about the criminals with hearts of gold (The Braxton brothers) and some pretty stupid story lines with woeful actors- not to mention completely unbelievable story lines. Not to mention “actors” too old for their roles- Are we expected to beleive Sasha and Spencer aged 24 and 21 respectively are still 15 or 16 year old Year 10 students? Or an airhead like Bianca Scott has the intelligence to be a successful school principle with the amount of dopeyness her character portrays? Or Marylin the could really be in Love with John Palmer. Or Alf shares a house with his daughter her husband, and 2 randoms?

  3. Have Channel 7 ever thought of moving “Home and Away”to that time? It is so childish the last time I saw it, it would seem perfect for that giggly, pubescent age which is what most of the story lines cater toward

  4. I used to love Deal or No Deal, but haven’t watched it for years now. Too many other great shows to watch. I’m usually watching Gold Coast News if I’m home at that time.
