Nucky Thompson is sticking around in Atlantic City.
HBO has confirmed Boardwalk Empire has been renewed for a fifth season.
HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said, “Thanks to Terry Winter, Martin Scorsese, Tim Van Patten, Howard Korder and their stellar team, Boardwalk Empire remains in a class by itself.
“I look forward to another electrifying season of this impeccably crafted series.”
While the season premiered with 2.4 million viewers, around 7.5 million viewers are tuning in this once numbers are combined for original broadcasts, replays, DVR and streaming.
The fourth season is currently screening on Showcase.
Boardwalk Empire‘s renewal comes as HBO is poised to say farewell to True Blood next year. The future of Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom is promising but still unclear.

Great news. It’s hard to imagine they could top the third season (and Bobby Cannavale’s Emmy was well-deserved), but always worth watching.
I watched the first couple of eps of this show but it was too slow for my liking (despite the amazing acting and scenes). Here’s hoping that good news will follow for The Newsroom as it ended on such a high I want to know what is to come next,
