2013-10-16_1554_001The Devil’s Playground, Wentworth, Game of Thrones, House of Cards and The Real Housewives of Melbourne are amongst Foxtel’s 2014 titles, announced at its annual Upfronts in Sydney tonight.

Also confirmed for 2014 was the iQ3 PVR and new channels TV Hits and Syfy.

US cable hits Ray Donovan, VEEP and The Newsroom will return, joined by new US drama True Detective starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

The US version of Rake, starring Greg Kinnear, will launch on the new-look Universal Channel.

Australia’s Next Top Model is back with host Jennifer Hawkins signed to a new two year deal. Naomi Campbell is headed to Australia next month to film The Face Australia. AFL reality series The Recruit searches for an undiscovered football player to join an AFL club.

New series Star-Crossed joins returning FOX8 titles such as Revolution, Grimm, Chicago Fire, Hart of Dixie, and Pretty Little Liars, all screened Express from the US.

Foxtel Executive Director of Television Brian Walsh said, “Content is and always will remain king, and we’ve gathered, commissioned and programmed the very best for our customers. 2014 will be another monumental, game-changing year for Foxtel.

“Scripted drama is one of the biggest TV genres and is very popular with Foxtel subscribers. Over the past few years we have seen the rise of the event series or ‘super series’ taking the once exclusive high-end production experience of the cinema and creating plotlines that are far deeper than any movie can produce, over an 8-12 episode series. From Game of Thrones to Wentworth, Foxtel is the home of drama that’s different.”

New titles are also launching later this year beginning with The Crazy Ones this Sunday with Robin Williams.

Chef Matt Moran’s first series for Foxtel Paddock to Plate (The LifeStyle Channel) premieres next month and Donna Hay will return to Foxtel with a new special, A Donna Hay Christmas (LifeStyle FOOD), later this year. The LifeStyle Channel also has a new series of Celebrity Come Dine With Me Australia in the works.

Later this month, LifeStyle YOU will debut Embarrassing Bodies Down Under.

The LifeStyle Channel will have more Selling Houses Australia, Location, Location, Location Australia, Grand Designs Australia, River Cottage Australia, and in 2014 a new series Meet The Frockers with three rival bridal salons all vying for business on the same Melbourne street.

Coast Australia will see UK host Neil Oliver explore the Australian coastline on History in December 2013. Also premiering in December are the Australian productions Outback Coroner and Behind Mansion Walls, both on CI Network. Outback Coroner follows the often confronting working life of coroners in rural Australia. Behind Mansion Walls is a murder and mystery crime series investigating the lives of the wealthy, hosted by Kerri-Anne Kennerley.

Foxtel’s sports channels FOX SPORTS, FOX FOOTY, ESPN, Eurosport and Sky Racing continue their AFL, NRL, A-League, Cricket, and Rugby Union, as well as international sports such as soccer, american football, car racing, basketball, hockey, tennis and golf.

Channel [V], MAX, [V] HITS, and CMC remain STV’s home of music.

They should have Tabatha take over some Aussie businesses. Love her no nonsense tough love.

Interesting to see how Coast goes. It was rumoured to be S8 of the BBC show, but the UK eps aired first and it will now be S9.

And National Geographic preempted them with Life on The Edge.
