Hinch guilty of breaching court suppression order

Derryn Hinch has been found guilty of breaching a court suppression order but not guilty of contempt of court.

dhiSeven News broadcaster Derryn Hinch has been found guilty of breaching a court suppression order but not guilty of contempt of court over information he published about the Jill Meagher case on his website, Human Headline.

The Jill Meagher case had attracted enormous social media comment which had led to warnings of the risks of potential contempt of court.

Hinch was charged in June following his publication but Fairfax reports his lawyer told the court only 797 individual views of the website had been made over a four-day period in April while a court order was in place.

Hinch has previously been found guilty of breaching a suppression order in another case but avoided jail because he was recovering from a liver transplant operation, and was sentenced to 5 months home detention.

Sentencing submissions will be made on Friday October 11.
