Oops. Hinch denies Seven News report on his contempt fine.

"My network News was wrong," Derryn Hinch tweets after it claimed he asked for donations to pay his fine.

2013-04-09_1106Not sure if this is a first, but it’s not a very good look.

Derryn Hinch has told Seven News, they were incorrect in reporting him as asking for donations via Twitter to pay his contempt fine.

Hinch has to pay a $100,000 fine.

Hinch told Fairfax he would accept donations for his legal costs of $140,000 raised by others, but not for the contempt fine.

“I don’t want people to help me pay my fine because the judge made it quite clear in court that I should pay my own fine, that it shouldn’t be paid by somebody else,” he said.

“Maybe he thought that somebody like Channel Seven might, but it has nothing to do with Channel Seven. I’m contracted to them [but] my contempt of court was on my website and had nothing to do with my television career at all.”

Not very good of Seven News to get the facts wrong when reporting on one of its own employees.

Did anybody bother to ask him?

  1. Reporters are expected to file something new and exciting every hour. If they check the twitter and facebook posts they rely on to do they they would have nothing to file.

  2. I saw that on Twitter that his ‘fans’ were putting in money and thought how ridiculous, he would have more money than them. Glad it’s not true.
