Prisoner reruns from episode 1

111 HITS is about to kick-start the original Prisoner series, which includes episodes that are some of the show's most enticing.

2013-10-30_0044Prisoner (and Wentworth) fans will be pleased to hear that 111 HITS is about to kick-start the original series all over again from episode one.

As most fans know, these early episodes are amongst some of the drama’s most enticing.

They include scenes were “Vinegar Tits” is named, while hair, fashion and sets leave a lot to be desired. And then there’s the ironing press for Wonky Warner…. but it’s all why fans still love the show.

It returns Tuesday 12 November at 3pm.

  1. I agree that the early years were better; in part because we had seen nothing like it before. By 1985 it was getting a little tired, and other dramas were more groundbrreaking. I have always felt that ‘Rita Connors’ and Glenda Linscott’s amazing portrayal made her one of the most iconic Prisoner characters. But all the screeching and at times silly plots from late 85 through to mid 86 made it less appealing. I do recall Melbourne getting the finale months before Sydney back then. It was well into ’87 when the end came; rather than end of 1986 for Victorian viewers.

  2. David, any chance you can do a Prisoner “Freak” story leading up to the final episode which airs on 11 Nov.
It would be great if this dramatic conclusion can get some top ratings.

  3. This is great news, Prisoner just won’t die! Easily the best drama Australia has ever made but why can’t Channel Ten make something as good as this now?

@ brentstv from memory Prisoner was axed at the end of 1986 due to declining ratings which started ever since Bea Smith left but the ratings never reached disaster territory. But nothing beats the early years, the first 3 1/2 years (before the Freak’s arrival) when the show was at its peak.

Early years’ characters like Bea, Lizzie, Doreen, Judy, Erica, Meg, Vera, Jim, Franky, Lynn, Karen, Mum, Noeline, Monica, Chrissie, Margo, Roz, Sharon, Sandy, Marie, Colleen and Joyce are what made the show and they can’t be beat!

  4. Yes, it was axed, as David said, as ratings were starting to fall, and there wasn’t anything new to bring after 692 episodes.

Luckily the axing was announced with about 8 weeks of filming remaining, so the writers had time to create the ending story-lines, which are starting to take shape now.

  5. My neighbour and I just love watching the current episodes of prisoner on 111 hits at the moment. Spider, kath, joan, etc. The earlier episodes were good too, but I prefer the ones on now. We will have a big party here for the last show. Why did it finish in 1986 anyway? Was it axed?
