Renewed: Australia’s Got Talent

Despite middling ratings for the show, a Nine spokesperson confirmed the return of AGT in 2014.

2013-10-27_0055Australia’s Got Talent is coming back in 2014.

Despite middling ratings for the show, a Nine spokesperson confirmed the return to News Corp Australia.

TV Tonight understands Nine has agreed to 2 seasons when it picked up the rights from FremantleMedia Australia.

Last week it pulled 850,000 viewers. But while the show hasn’t managed to “pop” this year, it has attracted some talented acts. However some of them tend to get lost amid an abundance of underwhelming acts, necessitated by too many finals.

A number of acts have also been over-produced, and the format puts too much space in between the audience seeing them return.

Next year AGT will have to air somewhere away from The X Factor, otherwise there’s not much point in doing it at all.

Kyle Sandilands recently told TV Tonight he was up for another season.

“They’re already talking about executing my option for next year so I don’t think they’re going to just throw it in the bin. So it’s not going anywhere as far as I’m concerned,” he said.

“I like doing it. It’s not hard.”

  1. Why dosnt Channel nine try running two telant shows? I agree with a couple of the other comments channel nine would do well by putting Red Faces on as a stand alone show for day to day acts and then use AGT for main streem telant.

  2. Xfactor and 7 cannot be blamed for AGT slow ratings. Britains Got Talent does very well against strong competition. I think our smaller talent base and Nines production of it is the problem. 7 kept it simple and real. I think 3 judges is the way to go. If Nine had of been smart they could of save a lot of money by just tarting up Red Faces as a stand alone show. Not much difference really.

  3. I think you’ll find that the actual audience reach for AGT is quite high seeing it is played 4-5 times in a week – the overnights are not the complete story here!

I never watched AGT on Sunday night (other than ep1) but have often looked on Tue on GO!, Sat on Nine or even left on Sunday afternoon.

  4. How about some thinking outside the square from nine. They need to take a breath and start to look at where they can compete against seven. What about Doing Talent in sort of a hey hey format from 7-830 on Saturday after hour news. This would give a point of difference. Change the format to categories and then have heats leading to semis and a final. It is just do disjointed the way it is now and was never going to be able to compete with production values of X factor and simply to be used as a spoiler is a waste
