Start stockpiling for summer….

Now is a great time to be recording shows onto your PVR to view across the silly season.

2013-10-15_2146If you haven’t already worked it out, the end of the ratings year isn’t too far away: Saturday November 30th.

As networks head into summer ratings, the quality of our content is set to change gears.

Now is a great time to be recording shows onto your PVR to view across the silly season.

There are still some gems hidden in the TV guide if you know where to look.

Don’t forget TV Tonight‘s new-look Calendar for premieres and finales.

  1. Will be in DVD heaven. Some early Christmas presents from relatives in the UK will keep me going through to easter, Spiral 4, Arne Dahl, Downton Abbey 4 & Borgen 2 to start with. Will still have plenty of time to sit in the garden with a good wine and book.

  2. I’ve just found this American show called Suits. It’s great!
DVD of season 1 is avail and season 2 comes out later in the year. It’s well worth it

  3. Myself and most of my friends are close to having given up on broadcast (and pay) TV.

The only way to see a series in a timely fashion and in the sequence it was produced is to get it on DVD, or in some digital format. You also then don’t have to struggle with random timeslot bumps and last minute schedule changes (10 is worst for this, but 9 and 7 are far from innocent).

About the only shows we still PVR are those on ABC or SBS, as you can be fairly certain they will at least run the whole season and not be tossed around the schedule unnecessarily. I’d like to add that they’ll probably start on time, but in recent months the ABC has been compl;etely useless at compiling their EPG, it’s frequently 5 minutes or more out.

  4. I’m spooling Once Upon A Time, Royal Pains, Sleepy Hollow and Agents of SHIELD, whatever Blacklist (recording tonights repeat) I can get and I still have Hell on Wheels , 4 episodes of Under The Dome and some Bones to watch.

Shows that I think should be on in summer anyway.

On Foxtel The Walking Dead, Heart of Dixie, Switched at Birth, Orange Is The New Black, S2 of Continuum, The Fall and hopefully Justified in January.

Add the Ashes and I have too much TV to watch over Summer.

  5. For me its already non ratings period. There is hardly anything worth watching on TV at the moment. This is the first time in a long time that my pvr is hardly recording anything. I’m finding home and away quite boring and this weeks episode of homeland was rubbish. Not enjoying this season and if it doesn’t improve next week I will give it the flick.

  6. I have enough unseen TV in different formats to last me many summers in the fruitless attempt to catch up.

I’m assuming FTA will lead the way taking most shows off and leaving a few eps hanging. Foxtel should keep all the fast tracked shows on as long as they are airing in the US.

  7. Thanks David,
I have kept all episodes of The Americans, a number of SBS documentaries and some 7two and ABC lifestyle shows, preparing for this eventuality.
I am hoping one day the networks will reduce the summer non ratings season. But it seems less eyeballs are tuning in year in year out.
