The Sunrise team today cleverly took on some of their critics by reading out some of the harshest stuff on their website.
Sam Armytage, David Koch, Natalie Barr and Mark Beretta laughed off the social media barbs that had been sent to them. Well, most of them anyway.
Beretta gave back as good as he got.
Hopefully it won’t inspire people to send more, in the hope of having theirs read out too..

don’t watch the show. i certainly don’t or even the breakfast show
I don’t have Twitter, Facebook or any other such in-thing, incorrectly referred to as “social media”. It’s really “anti-social media”.
@Maev….Sydney – Same here. If you don’t have the guts to write to someone including your real name and address, then don’t.
My Mum always said…’If you can’t say something nice..don’t say anything at all’
No better than school yard bullies!
They read out more hate emails they got on on the show yesterday.
Interesting when Nat said she received this spiteful email form a viewer and the viewers daughter saw what her mum wrote, rang up and apologised to Nat for what her mum wrote.
Their reaction to it is funny but I agree it is gutless to hide behind social media to attack people.
My rule of thumb is if you wouldn’t say it to their face don’t write it. We really are becoming mean.
Natalie Barr’s death stare?
Nah, it’s got nothing compared to politian Julie Bishop.[YouTube]
I seem to remember them doing this on Backchat years ago. Andrew Denton voicing someone’s complaint about his own show comes to mind…
Nobody’s actually claiming it was original. But it was timely, following Lisa Wilkinson’s remarks in the Andrew Olle Lecture.
@s5000
People have been whinging about copycats since the dawn of time, Gosh. Can’t you be original? 😛
Jimmy Kimmel has been doing this for ages. Gosh, does *anyone* have an original idea anymore??
the trouble is it’s true…
btw Catherine, it’s “their faces”
Good on them for having a sense of humour and laughing it off. It must still be hurtful. Those 1D fans and absolute nutters. They did the same thing with the receptionist at Nova, when Harry or one of them asked her out. She got all this hate mail. They really need to get a life. Saying to Sam, as if they’d be interested in her, I don’t think she’d be interested in them.
Another example of talent being the focus of a TV show. Whatever happened to the content being the focus?
People are tough hiding behind social media arent they? I wonder how many of those people would have the guts to say it to there faces.
Im a little surprised Mark cops it.
Its like the other day after sam interviewed one direction after that she got twitter messages form 1d fans saying I hope you die from a slow painful death and you’re fat.
Its good that they can laugh it off.
Kyle & Jackie O do this kind of segment every week. I thought it was quite funny
I think you mean this vid..

Jimmy Kimmel has got his guests to do this in the past. It’s well worth hunting down the clips on youtube: Celebrities Read Mean Tweets.
Anyone who says nasty stuff about Sam though… watch your back, I’m after you!
That is pure gold! 😀

Less clever, more plagiarism. Right down to the backing track.
