Nine apologises to Michael Clarke

Nine has apologised to Michael Clarke after he was fined by the ICC for offensive language picked up by their stump microphone.

2013-11-27_1023Nine has apologised to Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke after he was fined by the International Cricket Council for offensive language picked up by their stump microphone.

Clarke told England’s James Anderson to ”get ready for a broken f***ing arm” on Sunday at the Gabba.

He was charged by the ICC for ”using language or a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting” and fined 20 per cent of his match fee, about $3000.

Fairfax reports Nine had not gone to a commercial break after an over and the audio faders were accidentally left up.

”It’s obviously a very rare and isolated error on our part, and we’ll do our best to ensure it never happens again,” Nine’s head of sport, Steve Crawley, said. ”He an outstanding Australian cricket captain who’s just led his team to a marvellous and historic win. He doesn’t need or deserve that to be tarnished by our error and we of course apologise.”

  1. The fact is this. The whole saga started with Anderson saying to Bailey ‘I’ll punch your f***ing head in’. I’d say that puts the whole thing in perspective.

  2. So if a cricketer sledges an opponent on the field if it wasn’t recorded by a Channel 9 microphone is it deemed not to have happened?

Nine didn’t make him say those words. I don’t get why Nine is apologising.
