Airdate: Underbelly NZ

2013-12-22_1723GO! is screening quite a bit of first run New Zealand content over summer, with Underbelly NZ: Land of the Long Green Cloud on GO! from Saturday.

The 6 part series on “Mr Asia” aired in NZ in 2011.

Nine has been screening Nothing Trivial in recent weeks, and while it’s not alone in NZ content, TV Tonight has previously filed how Nine has run low-profile Aussie movies on Saturday nights in summer, and noted the quota points this accrues.

NZ drama also nabs quota points under our current system.

“Disorganised Crime”
Tracks the rise of New Zealand’s first ever drug cartel. Marty Johnstone’s small time criminal career gets a big boost when he makes contact with a supplier of Thai cannabis sticks.

Starring: Dan Musgrove, Thijs Morris, Jamie Irvine, Holly Shanahan

Double episodes begin 9:30pm Saturday December 28 on GO! and continue Sunday and Monday.

  1. The quota thing is part of the trade agreement between NZ and Australia. Australia definitely gets stuff in return in other areas, but I can’t remember what.

  2. It was strange to see Go Girls move from the Ten channels to Nine. Now NITV is also screening it, presumably because some of the characters have Maori heritage…

Also, Underbelly NZ isn’t first run this time as it’s screened on Oz FTA before, though later in the evening.

  3. @DavidKnox: lol Nope Aussie content doesn’t count as Kiwi content. Our system is so commercialised we don’t even have content quota’s here which would go a long way to increase local TV if it were implemented over here. It’s still strange that Kiwi content counts towards Australian TV quota’s though!

  4. Spare a thought for us kiwis as our networks are going wall to wall with your Aussie reality shows over summer with Australia’s Got Talent, The Block All Stars five nights a week, Bondi Vet, Big Brother, The Bachelor Australia and Border Security, heck I think they’re gonna throw in your X Factor as well.

  5. I have fallen into watching Go Girls just recently after not seeing it for some time. They had three episodes over the weekend. The trouble with these obscure shows is that it is hard to keep track of when they are on.

  6. as much as I don’t like that NZ content is part of the Australia quota, I have been watching a few episodes of Nothing Trivial of late. I don’t mind this show. Its good to see it air a few nights a week. I think Nine/Go aired it once a week a while ago (probably last summer).
