Renewed: Survivor

Survivor has been renewed for two more seasons with Jeff Probst remaining on board.

2013-12-14_0006Reality juggernaut Survivor has been renewed by CBS for two more seasons: its 29th and 30th editions.

Jeff Probst has also signed a new agreement to return as host and executive producer of the show.

Survivor continues to set the bar for outstanding production values, compelling storytelling while delivering fresh new adventures every season,” CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler said in a statement.

“The show’s enduring success is a testament to the creativity and passion of Mark Burnett and Jeff Probst, and an amazing production team.”

The current series, subtitled Blood vs. Water, is averaging 11.29 million US viewers.

“This is the dream come true,” he told the Hollywood Reporter, adding that it’s “incredibly gratifying” to be part of a show that’s on the air so long. “To be in our 14th year, our 27th season, and still getting ratings, it’s amazing. I think the secret ingredient for Survivor’s success it that we have an incredibly loyal audience that just stays with us, and not a lot of shows can say that.”

Probst says producers try to give viewers “what they want.”

He notes that next season is a “direct response to the fans” which will examine “what kind of person is most likely to win Survivor?”

In Australia GO! airs the 2 hour finale and Reunion from 7:30pm Monday.

  1. I’m not a fan of Redemption Island but I think it worked well this season because of the loved one element and whether or not to switch with them.

The next season is guaranteed to have RC (from Phillipines in it) as Jeff said that she and her father were in this season but once they got to the Island and did medical checks before filming he had high blood pressure, and that she would be first call back for a next season of returnees. She was replaced by Candace and John.

Next seasons Brawns bs Brains vs Beauty is apparently only gonna feature 3 returnees (one for each team) and I’ve read that apparently the other two returnees are James (china, Micronesia, heroes v villains) and Rob C (amazon & all stars).

  2. Not a surprise at all. Survivor is the ultimate reality show.

I think it will only come to an end if Jeff Probst decides not to host anymore. You can’t have it without him.

  3. Survivor fans really do get it good, 30 seasons! 2 every year, I’m glad I’m in the Survivor club. Redemption Island is a tricky one. It’s good in some ways because it gives an extra challenge for the episode and lets you hang on to the hope that your favourite might get back in. eg. imagine if Rupert hadn’t got a chance at Redemption this season, and just walked off in the first 10 minutes… there would have been massive outrage. Redemption lessens that shock of your favourite being voted out.

  4. Where are you getting those ratings figures from? This current season is only averaging 9.7 million US viewers. It was barely at your figure when Probst took over as executive producer, and it’s been slipping ever since.

  5. I’ve been hooked since season 8 (Pearl Islands) and like Madonna, Muse or the Manic Street Preachers albums, there’s been peaks and troughs. But the current season is one of the best ever!

  6. Probst says producers try to give viewers “what they want.”

The majority of viewers don’t want Redemption Island, this season at least Redemption Island added a bit of drama, but please let this be last of it.

Next season is all new people, not sure what Probts meant when he said “direct response to the fans” which will examine “what kind of person is most likely to win Survivor?” Maybe they are all true fans who are applicants and not recruits.
