Ron Burgundy hosts North Dakota news -for real.

Video: Ron Burgundy, aka Will Ferrell, turned up on a US news broadcast in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Hot on the heels of his Aussie tour, actor Will Ferrell turned up on a US news broadcast in Bismarck, North Dakota as anchorman Ron Burgundy.

Seriously. Not making this stuff up.

Clearly a stunt to help promote Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, he played it pretty straight during the half hour bulletin, digressing to mispronounce some of the words and throwing in a bit of banter about the weight of the sports dude, and quipping, “I’ve never seen fighting in a hockey match before. That was fascinating.”

If you can bear wading through the local news about kids meeting Santa and problems with the local speed limit you might get a chuckle or two.

  1. @Jason : You miss my point. I get the level of the news – it was ripe for Burgundy to add his own special touch, but he didn’t take the ample comedic opportunities.

  2. I wonder if he’ll do it anywhere else?

Surprised now that it seems the first time he’s done this was when he read the news on The Project whilst in Australia.

  3. @Mac – Clearly you have not had to produce a daily half-hour news program in an town where nothing happens, every day. Think Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Mt.Isa, Broken Hill (in the days when they used to do local news). No stabbings, drug busts, drive-by shootings, hold-ups…..just….mini garbage fire, What kids want for Christmas, A not very extreme beard….sport & weather.

  4. That was disappointingly dull! So many wasted opportunities for comedy gold. Mini garbage fire? What kids want for Christmas? A not very extreme beard? And the co-anchor tried to fish but failed to even get his signature sign off? It’s not a case of Burgundy could have done so much more, rather he could have done something to make this unique opportunity worth watching. (Still looking forward to the movie though).

  5. 7 & 9 take note. This is how to present a news bulletin. No graffiti obscuring a quarter of the screen, no annoying transitions between this and that, a reader who, amazingly, doesn’t crack up, and a really cool weather man and sports guy that doesn’t find it necessary to shout, and is not bad on the eyes.
As an autocue reader, I’d give RB a 7/10. I’ve seen so much worst. (e.g. SCTEN NSW male reader who must get a -2/10).
